What race works better for convert?
I keep hearing that Tarus are the best race for mages, but then I thought, what about convert?
I mean, if I understand correctly, you switch your HP for MP and Tarus have low HP. Say you run out of mana(kinda hard for a Taru) and you use Convert....you will end up with Galka-like mana pool.

So is this a disadvantage for Tarus, or does race doesnt matter much for convert?

I think this actually makes hume a little better than the taru. When the hume has 575hp/325mp (max) and you use convert at 380hp/55mp to swap those to 55hp/325mp. I think the taru feels a little left out on this since they have a higher pool of MP than HP. However... this is the big however. They have a lot more MP than my normal amount so in the end it equals out when converting and they have more MP in that 10 minute span of time than when I convert anyways.

The taru still makes the better pure mage. Hume is good for survivability, which I demonstrated on Samurai AF1 last night. I chainspelled Thunder for almost all of my MP and then converted, Cure2, Cure2, Cure2, thunder thunder thunder thunder ect. Did over 1400 damage to it. I couldn't count up the logs that high. Too bad we didn't have our 6th person with us or we would have won, a good party of low 40's can take that thing if done right. We just needed one more tank.

I'm afraid if the race doesn't mattter for convert. This is becuse we hardly get hurt and our HP remains full if we work as supporters and stay back while fighting.

By the way, if you want to save some MP after convert, bring some MP+ gears and equip them when you use convert. You can use this kind of macros.

/equip l.ring Astral Ring (Convert 25HP to 25MP)
/equip r.ring Astral Ring (Convert 25HP to 25MP)
/equip head Gold Hairpin (-15HP, +30MP)
/ja Convert <me>

We know we have to heal ourselves after convert and spend some MP but first three lines of this macro get us additional 80MP. Even if we cast CureIV on us, that means we only consume 8MP (CureIV costs 88MP) overall. After healing, just change them to our normal equipments and we're all set.

Astral Rings are expensive but Electrum Rings (Convert 20HP to 20MP) are 1/10 cheaper than them. Gold Hairpin is something like 15K on our server and there are other hairpins for lower LVs. They are must-have gears for RDMs.

This may sound funny to some people but smart RDMs are all like fashion models in a fashion show changing their clothes (For MP+, INT+, MND+, and Melee) for their purposes during the battle.

With convert taru have an advantage. To regain the most mp possible you need to have your hp pool and max mp pool about the same size which is something only taru can do without a lot of very very expensive equipment.

If your hp are not full before you convert you can simply heal yourself to full or have someone else in the group do it for you.

Its very very simple. You swap numbers in your HP and MP.

Before Convert
500/620 HP
40/274 MP

After Convert
40/620 HP
274/274 MP

When you convert like that you need to immediatly drop a Cure2 and a Cure3 on yourself.

Wait, i think I'm starting to understand.

Let's use this example: 533 HP / 233 MP

I cast and cast and cast so now I'm at 500 HP / 5 MP

Convert

5HP / 233 MP , right? or will it only use as much HP it takes to fill my MP so it would be 273 HP ( 500 - 227 ( 233 - 5 ) )/ 233 MP ?

If this is right. What if I have 0 MP and I cast convert - will I die since it will be 0 HP / 233 MP?

Any HP which you have which is higher than your max MP are lost when you convert, so your first example is correct. You'd end up with 5HP/233MP.

Tarutaru make the best use of Convert by far. Convert is all about being balanced in HP/MP, and Tarutaru come the closest to being equal (they still have more HP than MP, but its a lot closer than the other races come).

I'd say in general (not counting equipment, and using an appropriate mage subjob... this is off the top of my head from personal experience):

Taru RDM have ~85MP for each 100HP
Hume/Mithra RDM have ~70MP for each 100HP
Elvaan RDM have ~55MP for each 100HP.
Galka RDM have ~35MP for each 100HP(and this might be a generous estimate).

No, if you have 0MP, it doesn't bring into effect. That is to say, you have to have at least 1MP to use it.

Definately true. Buy or synth a Silver Hairpin as soon as you can, it's helped a great deal over the early 20s.

There will be cake.

As apple pie said convert will do nothing if you try to do it with 0mp. You also can not convert again for another 10 minutes even though it does not switch.

Thanks Mylek for your additional comment.

By the way, Convert is inturrputed by paralyze and if that happenes, you have to wait for another 10 minutes, too...

Just be careful when you use it.
