OK, RNG merits are on the plate soon.
Probably going 5/5 Flashy, 5/5 Snapshot.
But the idea of even getting just 5% Recycle is appealing to me. Not to sound like I'm being cheap here, but I am curious how much that last Snapshot merit would actually matter.
Well, there are the Paddock Trousers from ZNMs, I guess I could just go for those and hold out for Scout's Beret if I really want some Recycle that badly.
Also crunched the numbers recently and found my COR's Sword merits are too high to really accompish getting anything better than B+ skill, even with Suppa and even if I had Justice torque (which I don't).
Lame.
So I'm taking it down from 8/8 to 6/8 and raising Archery to 6/8. I figure that's a decent compromise for now. I'm more inclined to use Orthenus Bow in things like Dynamis, Einherjar and Limbus anyway.
Moving on...
These new haidates. The ZNM ones with the +10 STR. Hachiryu Haidate
DEF:42 STR+10 Attack+5 Enhances "Zanshin" effect Set: Enhances "Store TP" effect
Lv. 75 WAR/MNK/RNG/SAM/NIN
Sexy. I have want. I never got around to getting Byakko's Haidate and now it seems like there's no point to them for RNGs, that is, unless you just want them for more Crits and faster Utsusemi recast. Or you have a MNK, WAR, SAM, BST or BRD.
These don't seem too shabby either: Hachiryu Sune-Ate
DEF:30 AGI+10 Evasion+5 Enhances "Zanshin" effect Set: Enhances "Store TP" effect
Lv. 75 WAR/MNK/RNG/SAM/NIN
Goes nice with Seiryu's Kote, I guess. If you really want more ranged acciracy or more AGI for Slugwinder mods.
All that aside, I have to wonder if it would kill SE to give us a new gun worth using. Ol' Hellfire is rusty and no one wants to buy it off me. I get a lot more action out of O-Bow and V-bow. Not that I don't love 'em, just would like a new ranged toy to play with.
The notion of the relic crossbow also has my interest, but so does the COR relic gun. Too much work to go for a second one, I'll probably defer to COR on this one. Still, if it worked like the other relics and the bolt effects got a similar multiplier bonus, that would be sexy indeed. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | The following user says "Thank You" to Omgwtfbbqkitten for above post: | | | 06-24-2008, 09:33 AM | #2 (permalink) | | Brain of Knowledge Join Date: Jun 2007 Location: Chicago Suburbs Posts: 1,736 Style: Light - Version 6 My Mood: Thanks: 170 Thanked 425x in 259 Posts Gil: 21,128 Bank: 69,955 Total Gil: 91,083 Donate | Re: OMG a RNG topic I definitely would take the COR gun over the RNG crossbow, as RNG already has several powerful non-relic options available, while COR is basically Martial, Coffinmaker, or bust.
Semi-related: I was going to do RNG after PLD, the obvious route would be to go for Marksmanship since I will have 8/8 merits from COR, but I just inherited an EBow for my 37 RNG.
Check that, it appears I just inherited a 75 RNG as well.
I mean cool, but it would be nice if all my old-school friends didn't quit for WoW and such. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 06-24-2008, 09:50 AM | #3 (permalink) | | Lightness Keeper of Knowledge Join Date: Apr 2004 Posts: 2,393 Style: Light - Version 4 My Mood: Thanks: 92 Thanked 129x in 77 Posts Gil: 10,491 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 10,491 Donate | Re: OMG a RNG topic The +10STR are hot.

I am using Pln. Seraweels for archery to get the STR bonus, so these are a definite upgrade. I wouldn't bother with the feet, but then I have Scout's Socks and <3 those.
I'm....considering Recycle myself. However, ammo on my server however has gotten ridiculously cheap compared to the old days (except for Kabura's, which I can make myself) and I get to RNG so little nowadays that it's almost not worth it to even spend merits here. When I get around to it, I'll probably go Recycle and Snap (I have Scout's Beret, but I only use it for Holy Bolts).
A new gun would be nice. I'm not going to bother even considering the ToAU relic x-bow unless it's stats are ridiculous, I'm quite happy with O-Bow.
It's kinda fun to actually talk about RNG stuffz....thanks to u for making a topic lol. Mains: 75 RNG/MNK/BLM/BLU/NIN/SAM

I tend to use Kabura sparingly and grab Marids whenever they're in stock. Marids don't stack, but they're just 2 DMG shy of what Kabura do and vastly cheaper than Demons or Kabura.
Basically, I'll so Demon + Marids for things like TP burn and Demon + Kabura for events. For things like farming or small NM hunting, go with scorpion arrows, as they're both plentiful and cheap. Also not a bad option for quick TP if you're low on other ammo, but scorpions should never be the primary form of DoT at 75. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 06-24-2008, 12:22 PM | #8 (permalink) | | From Beneath You, It Devours Super Moderator Join Date: Apr 2004 Location: Texas Posts: 3,439 Style: Dark - Version 5 My Mood: Thanks: 43 Thanked 150x in 105 Posts Gil: 18,222 Bank: 56,315 Total Gil: 74,537 Donate | Re: OMG a RNG topic Yeah, I was usually Demons 100% of the time. Mebbe I should take some vacation JUST to get V Bow. Meanwhile, I keep hoping Nyzul will be kind to me lol.
On the ammo question, I generally TP in Demons for the added ATK down effect. The raw DMG isn't as sexy as Kabura or Marid, but I like this effect and think it makes up the difference. For Winder I use PPA (on my fourth one, yes I've shot that many -.-) or just use the Demons when U.S. isn't up. Mains: 75 RNG/MNK/BLM/BLU/NIN/SAM
