So I have hit 61 now, got my Selene's Bow (yet to exp with it though), and had a few questions...

1. I'm not going to complain about expenses, I signed up for it when I started the job. But at the rate I go through arrows, I cannot sustain using Demon's full time (except maybe special fights like NM's Gods etc) - am I overly gimp by only using scorps for exp and Demon's for WS?

My dmg with Scorpion Arrows so far in exp has been more than adequate...

2. I have been following the guide on Wiki for gear upgrades. At 60, it says Chilv Chain.

I got it, but then thought after (actually, being honest, after someone in my ls pointed out) - why would I change Ranger's Neck for Chilv? If 2STR=1RATK, Ranger's Neck is far better. Dont have a PCC.

3. PPA. I really really like the look of this, ignoring the fact that I am still looking for a way to best ensure I dont fire it without Unlimited Shot on. +40racc means I can swap in a ridiculous amount of STR/RATK/AGI gear to boost WS damage. I still havent met a ranger that uses it regularly. Why is this? Is it that much hassle? Or are most just too lazy? The gains of this, esp on bigger fights (i.e not exp), is huge. Even if it is only every 5 mins. Looking for opinions/discussion.

4. Flashy Shot. Again, from what I can tell, huge. If I read it right and it disregards the level difference penalty, it would make my WS hit as if I were shooting an EM mob? How much enmity do you gain through this?

There's nothing wrong with being a little frugal here and there, but its best to avoid making Scorpions your primary DoT arrows. Keep some Bodkin arrows on hand at least or the Elemental Arrows if they're cheap enough because they're still better DoT than scorps even if they don't quiver.

There's also a fair reprieve just ahead on arrows. Marid arrows (while they also don't quiver... thanks SE) are often very cheap and pump out almost comprable damage to Kabura, which tends to be the most expensive arrow.

Ranger Necklace is the one to stick with until Qiqirn Collar unless you have breeze/light gorget waiting for you already. Otherwise spectacles are PCC would be better in my opinion.

Its a conquest points item and we only get 12 arrows for all those lovely rank 10 conquest point costs... yeah. That's too few arrows to be screwing up with and chances are most people (or maybe just me) have burned up all thier conquest points or just don't want to rank up to 10 for windy and start from scratch on points to get them. Conquest zones aren't popular for much these days.

There's a lot of enmity tagged to this one, but if you DoT carefully before you use it, its not too bad, especially with /NIN, its not something you want to use right after Barrage. I use it much more sparingly when I go /WAR since the RNG/WAR combo can be a much bigger hate magnet.

scorpion arrows will do for now. however, if you're meriting or doing end game stuff with scorpion arrows, you might want to think about spending some time to raise some gil.

rng necklace is perfectly fine.

ppl dont use it because they dont like throwing away 32000/40000 CP. You will accidentily shoot it sooner or later. I just dont feel like blowing all that CP again.

i havent bothered meriting flashy shot. the huge timer has me completely turned off.

Flashy shot is completely worthless, I have it fully merited and regret doing it :\, I rarely use it and it doesn't do any more damage than i normally do. Depending on what your planning to do. If it's anything in HNMs do Stealth Shot caped and Snapshot don't even bother with Flashy shot.

Thanks for the replies.

About Scorp arrows, I am only using this in exp. I havent used RNG in any endgame yet (lvl61..) but I imagine I should be able to using Kabura or similar in bigger HNM fights.

PPA - do you get 1 arrow for 40k CP or 12?

Flashy Shot - are we all on the same page here? I am talking about using this on HNM monsters, i.e Lvl80+. Not VT Exp mobs.

Im still gonna get it. Its not like I spend CP for anything else anyway

Maybe Ill do 2 x Recycle, 3 x Snapshot and 1 x Flashy Shot to test, and I can decide for myself if it is worth the 3 points.

Then I'll fully merit Scavenge and spent my days digging around.

I'd get PPA but knowing my luck especially with my macros I won't bother getting it. I rather use my CP for more important things, like recharging my emp band.

Safest bet is to manually change your ppa wheneer you use it. And always make sure US goes off. I lost mine when I used US then did a normal shot before sidewindering.
As far as group 2 merits go: I plan on doing full Snapshot and Flashy shot. Recycle always struck me as being incredibly cheap.

Ok, gear check time. I was browsing and reading about RNG/WAR with Firestaff, and right now I cannot see myself being able to do that through racc loss.

On Colibri, with Sushi, my RACC is perfect as can be. Soon as it is snatched or I use subs, my RACC goes down the drain and I miss like 50% of my Sidewinders.
