Frustrations with losing TP during WS

I've been leveling RNG and SAM solo for a bit now, and I've gotten to the point where I'm soloing SAM as /RNG against worms. I ran into an annoyance with trying to open up a fight with Flaming Arrow, where the game would tell me that I was too far away from the mob, and I consequently end up losing all of my TP.

So I thought I learned my lesson. If I start the fight with a regular ranged attack, and I'm close enough for that, my WSs should fire fine. Right?

Wrong.

Several times I've been firing away arrows without any problems, and when I go to fire Flaming Arrow, the game still tells me that I'm too far away.

Any of you RNGs have any helpful suggestions on how to gauge my distance properly for firing off a WS?

Re: Frustrations with losing TP during WS

your max firing distance and max ws distance are different.

if you use windower's distance plugin you'd be able to quantify how far you should be.

max firing distance seems to be around the ~24 mark. max ws distance seems to be around ~15ish.
if you dont have windower which blahblahblah is against tos and yadda yadda... try half the distance between ur max firing for ws.

Re: Frustrations with losing TP during WS

The only RNG weaponskills I know of that have large range to fire from are Detonator and Emperyal Arrow, which are quested. Otherwise, most weaponskills should be working from the Bow sweet spot at the very least.

As for finding the sweet spot, refer to this awesome diagram:

... or let's just hear what VZX will say. I eye the sweet spots as (Gun) just outside of melee range, (XBow) a few paces away from gun and (Bow) Five to Seven Paces from Xbow.

Yeah it's really rather annoying and I wish SE would extend the range of ranged WS to match that of ranged attacks...

My sentiments exactly. Its soooo annoying. Especially when sometimes, judging the distance is harder of you are not fighting on even ground.

Re: Frustrations with losing TP during WS

This kept happening to a RNG in my party the other night, and he kept ">.<" ing every time it happened, (It was at LEAST 10 times). I couldn't help wondering why the hell he didn't move closer.

But that is kind of bullshit to lose all of your TP, in some cases when I'm doing a WS on a melee job and I happen to turn around or I just used a spell or whatever the case may be, I don't lose my TP, I just get "Unable to use weapon skill." Why isn't this the same for RNG?

This also pisses me off about Blood Pacts, as well, but that's not really related and not even tied to TP, but it's frustrating when some dipshit in your party moves the mob just as you're preparing to smack the mob with your avatar. Meh, before I go off topic, let me just say, I feel your pain.

It's the same for everybody. If the mob runs out of your range (or if you simply start your WS out of range) you lose your TP, melee or not. If you run out of the mob's range, the mob loses its TP. The difference is melee WS have slightly more range than autoattack (which actually lets WS and physical BLU spells hit worms from just outside their autoattack range.)

I didn't know that. >.< How gay. See, I've never had this problem before, obviously. So now it becomes even more crucial to have a damn tank who can hold hate, so the mob doesn't go running for the mages at the crucial time.

Re: Frustrations with losing TP during WS

Thanks for all the info. I got a good laugh out of that diagram posted by BBQ.

My solution ended up being to ignore WSs altogether. I found that running close enough to fire off a WS would leave me prone to Stonega, and sometimes even Gastric Bomb. And let me tell you, that Attack Down from Gastric Bomb really slows things down.

Yeah, it used to be pretty annoying with skillchains and RNGs, you know, back when people still bothered to skillchain.

Hell yeah. When I was soloing as RDM/RNG I actually used Barwater over Barstone just because Gastric Bomb is so freaking evil. HP loss can be fixed gradually, but nothing kills an EXP chain faster than 50% Attack down.

Re: Frustrations with losing TP during WS

I can add a bit and say that the relic WS Namas Arrow seems to have the same range as most of the other bow WS (~15). One of my LS mates has a completed relic bow and was using it in a merit party on his Samurai the other day. Simply insane amounts of damage, incidentally...
