mnk gives you better hate holding abilities, higher hp, plus counter, /thf pre 30 gives you... steal... yeah, that's useful, not.

I agree with them....however, I have thf lvl'd to 30 and mnk lvl'd to...hmm....lets see..oh yeah, 0. So, due to the fact that I'm only gonna take war to 37 and I have no personal desire to ever lvl mnk, I'm gonna stick with /thf. I know /mnk is the better choice but I hate lvling war as is and extending that excruciating time by lvling mnk to sub for it is just not gonna happen. But if you have the patience to do it, more power to you.

yeah MNK is pain to raise. I took it to 30 as my first job. ; ; Then took WAR to 30 for subbing to RNG. Now I'm taking NIN to 30 for subbing to RNG. ; ; h8 subjob levelling. >.<

only reason i ask is cuz id rather have a sub than nothing...not too interested in mnk. im just interested in getting 30 asap and i figure having a sub will help me get there faster...both with invites and stats

how high should i take it? 10? 15?

Thf is probably the way to go.

Monk is better for tanking purposes, but you have gilfinder, steal and Th that you will always be able to use as a /thf for getting cash.

in all honesty, until you hit 30 war, thf is gonna be almost completely useless to you because you wont have Sneak attack. after 30 then thf would be a good way to go but until then you are better off with mnk as a sub, hell for that matter you would be more useful as a war/whm than as a war/thf pre 30.but thats not to say that you shouldnt level thf up, by all means you should. i have thief at 30 for farming reasons.

You never know what you are going to learne till you take the step and fall flat on your ass.

If you had an Emperor Hairpin, An Axe and Shield, Compound Eye Circlet, a lot of +AGI gear, I suppose all that extra evasion and blocking and parrying would actually be worth it. However, MNK/WAR wins hands-down in terms of tanking and damage-dealing pre-30. Boost every 15 seconds, Provoke every 30, use a Great Axe. Throw in Counter and Double Attack at 20 and 25 and you'll find that after the second Provoke not much'll rip hate off you, and when the mob's at 25% HP it's practically glued to you. I died 2-3 times in separate Batallia parties because DRK, nor THF, nor MNK could Provoke the mob off me. When I was in Yhoator I'd only lose hate if the BLM went nuke-happy, but after the second Provoke the mob was fixed on me. You CAN get away with WAR/THF quite easily, but in my opinion WAR/MNK is much better pre-30.
