When FF XI finally is released in Europe, I will be a Mithra Ranger/Thief. However, I begin with the thief until level 30, and then i am going to do the Ranger quest. When I am ranger level 17, can I have the thief subjob, even if my thief is at level 30? I don't know how the subjob system works, so...
If I can't be a Rng/Thf because my thief is too high (I read somewhere your sub is half your main) I will take the Ninja as a sub. Is that a good choice?

So, for example when you get your ranger, your job will look like this when you start out. Level 1 Ranger/Level 1 Theif. Then when you're a higher level, you will look more like this Level 60 Ranger/ Level 30 Thief. You will have all of the abilities of a level 30 thief like flee and steal, but you can't use the two hour ability of a thief. 75WHM 75BLM 57BST 50RDM 42SMN 28BRD

And...It's just all about the abilities then? Okay thanks, Never been able to find a FAQ or topic to clear out that specific question. The Subjob FAQ on gamefaqs.com just said: Your sub is half your main... The road remains wide open while your dreams are alive. RNG/NIN or RNG/WAR is just more effective though THF60 / RNG31 / NIN30 / WAR28 / WHM25 / BST19 / BLM15 | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 06-12-2004, 04:13 AM | #6 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: May 2004 Location: The Netherlands Posts: 105 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 0 Thanked 0x in 0 Posts Gil: 369 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 369 Donate | Mm I don't know for sure yet, only thing I know is that I start off with Thief until level 30, I hope to be rich then (well, sort off) and be able to afford the ranger job until level 20/30 without excessive farming.
I always can switch subjobs, but one question...
Don't thiefs give you handy bonuses like agility or dexterity? These are handy for a Ranger, right?
Still undecided what his subjob will be,

~F~ | Subjobs are for abilities, not stats. Thief has zero abilities beneficial to an xp party.
RNG/THF 50+ is a major farming combo though. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 06-12-2004, 10:25 AM | #8 (permalink) | | Senior Member Brain of Knowledge Join Date: Aug 2003 Posts: 1,286 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 0 Thanked 7x in 5 Posts Gil: 5,388 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 5,388 Donate | | Quote: | | Subjobs are for abilities, not stats. A mithra RNG/WAR has 71 AGI at the same level. Hattori is mostly right, though. THF gives absolutely no added abilities beneficial for partying. Sneak attack and trick attack do not work with ranged attacks, so that rules out that. But /WAR has Berserk, added attack bonuses, added defense bonuses, defender (which isn't that great), and a bit higher STR over /NIN (2 more at 59). /NIN is also awesome for blink, dual wielding archer's knives, and also (I'm not sure if it stacks with awareness though...) stealth, which if it does stack with awareness, gives you even less of a chance of getting aggro'd by a mob.
And Rodin, in the case of RNG, the subjob really is all about the abilities, not really the stats.
So, the tip I can give to you Fingolfin is to weigh out which of those two subjobs you think would benefit your playing style.
Make sure to take a look at these posts when considering playing RNG: http://ffxionline.com/forums/showthr...threadid=17917
and http://ffxionline.com/forums/showthr...threadid=34986
Hope these tips help you out
Also, if anyone wants to know where and how I calculated these stats, this webpage does it. http://ccwf.cc.utexas.edu/~nhart/Status_calculator.htm
It only works up to level 59 because at 60 the equation changes and he hasn't found the equation yet. Woodworking: 60

I really appreciate it!
I think it will be Ninja, because all of the defense things the warrior adds is completely useless. I don't know about berserk, I mean, damage dealing is better with weapon skills for killing and for the rest just shooting, instead of berserk and draw to much hate? Well, just say if i'm plain wrong, but thats the way I think about it now and thats why I prefer Ninja now. Also, dual wield archer's knives is great, I heard that a lot.
Can't wait for the release here,

I like berserk for WS and barrage and such. It does add significant damage, but I'm currently levelling NIN to sub. But I'm going to keep them both available as subjobs to be versatile.
