Up to 30, how much money?
Sorry to post this, as it has probably been answered...but i'm at my mom's...and she has a 28.8 modem making it near impossible to "search" the forums for this info... >.<
Basically, i want to take my Ranger up to 30 (from 1 ) and am wondering how much gil i should farm beforehand...i want to get it out of the way first.
I'm thinking 100k or so...but i'm not sure.
Any input, or links, would be greatly appreciated.

Just looked through forums and didn't see anything jump out at me on this particular topic.
Saw lots of "expensive" and a 1-60 topic, but not a 1-30.
Basically, i'm interested in getting to 30 in order to be able to use widescan to farm with TH1 to outfit myself for whatever i do decide to do. As it is..i'm farming with a 30 WHM/15 THF and while its good for what i want (elementals) it is mighty inefficient...
(I am just doing elementals b/c i can play FFX-2 on my ps2 and just look over at the comp screen when the weather turns, run over and kill). So i want to get a 30 ranger so i can maybe net more than 1 elemental per weather cycle and...its a break from WHM.
However, i'm wondering what kind of investment i will need to put into the character up front in order to get the ranger to 30.
Main questions:
How expensive (generally) is the "best" bow i'm going to need ~30 (powerbow +1 is what i heard, but i'm not sure...)? I really only need to know the more expensive one b/c i'll be selling all the others once i'm done with them...so they really aren't "costing" anything, just a deposit on the main bow.
How expensive are "good" accessories (not leaping boots good, but "Hey, you are an ok outfitted ranger that will help our party" good), and which should i buy?
And...arrows...
Anywho, sorry for the bump, but i'm interested in deciding whether or not this is viable, or if i should just struggle thief to 30, and get ranger to 15...(widescan is available then, right?)
But ranger sounds fun.

Best bow for a lvl 30 is Great Bow +1, which goes for about 30k on Unicorn. The price isn't a big deal since there's a 5k (at most) price difference between each bow upgrade for a long while.

The Archer's Knives (lvl 28) are the only essential weapon and go for about 4-5k.

Bone, Beetle, etc rings +1 are your friends. Again, not so expensive. Maybe 3300 each for the Beetle +1.

Your Ranger's Necklace is just dandy and most use it for a long, long while if not permanently.

Arrows start at about 500 per stack for wooden and go up to about 1500 per stack for Horn (Beetle, Horn and Scorpion also add rAcc). At about 15, you're looking at 2-3 stacks tops per level (maybe less depending on exp per hour of your party) but it gets a lot rougher as you gain levels.

Look out for +AGI items, but don't go overboard if you're just gonna' use this job for farming. Examples are Emperor's Hairpin, Leaping Boots, Martial Slacks, etc. All of the good ones are NM drops which means expensive unless you wanna' camp them.

Honestly, I completely lost track of how much I spent getting Ranger to 30. If you wanna' be all that you can be, 100k is not NEARLY enough. If you wanna' squeak by, then 100k STILL isn't enough. Basic: 250-300k at least. Hardcore: In the realm of 500k+.

RNG gets Widescan at lvl1, so does BST. You don't have to level them, just sub them to your WHM while hunting elementals.

Yes, but you will then not have TH ><

Go RNG/THF it is far better farming than THF/RNG because the damage output of a RNG kills the smaller creatures much quicker, meaning you can farm far quicker.

Also, seen as you will be farming n00b mobs you can use low level arrows, so you may spend 1K on arrows for farming, but make far more than a THF would in the same time.

The problem with THF is that you do pitiful damage without sneak/renkei and it makes it tough to farm. I have to rest if I try to farm anything above lv 15

Widescan and TH rocks tho
