Re: Why would someone continue to play a job they hate as a main?

I only have WHM ... I don't mind healing, but I sort of mind ONLY healing day-in day-out, so I'm working on BLM (and I can always switch to PLD if I really feel like it, I suppose). I wasn't terribly happy to be told by the leader of my former Sky LS not to melee anything, EVER ... I mean, the tougher fights I can see, but just farming? If I were to come /NIN, I'm sure I could simply solo pots, at least...

Re: Why would someone continue to play a job they hate as a main?

With me Pup is my main i love to job to death. Its ver useful and at lv 72 i am outparsing most people on Imps and birds. But the truth to matter the comuintty started making me hate it at around lv 50. LoLpup gets tiresome when /radom people tell you lolpup. Or the complete lack of invites.

For endgame pup has alot of uses but the comuinty probaly wont let me join a Hmls shell. So when i hit 75 i will solo the avatars and mayeb try Fenir.

My goal right now is to get Full Pal gear and try to beat Genbu solo.

The nice thing is with pup u always try you r best to prove people wrong.

My next job would be Smn so if i want i could fight Nms and do gods ect.

My LS asked me countless times to bring my DRK to 37 so I can be a CS+Stun whore. I told em to stuff it. >.o But my LS is mostly friends so they didn't mind my rebellion. I told em I'd level BLM up and I'm enjoying it. *shrug* My Linkshell is used to my moods and almost get away with not leveling up DRK.

(I am, but taking my sweet time on it. It's currently at 22.)

Re: Why would someone continue to play a job they hate as a main?

I'm a career BRD as well, and I started leveling the little abomination out of my disgust with how slowly other jobs were invited to parties, and quickly developed a liking for it. The thing I like about it is that you're always in motion, and with enough buffs at your disposal to bury a small child, you can keep going with reckless abandon. The problem is that you tend to repeat the same things over and over, ad infinitum, all the time. I like BRD, sure, but I just can't party with it anymore. The monotony drives me insane, and occasional event with my friends or my linkshell taxes my patience enough. I will, however, say that it's a blast to play in something like Besieged or Campaign.

Re: Why would someone continue to play a job they hate as a main?

I love playing bard! I'm a great bard, much better than anyone I've ever played with, though I don't claim to be the best. I like being versitle, and though I may be the guy behind the curtains, I know that my presence contributes significantly overall. I hate being bard in meripo though... I can maybe do it for an hour or so, and can pull with the best of them, but it's such a mind drain. I think I like bard so much cause it makes duoing with my brother and friends very enjoyable, and we've been able to pull off some amazing stuff that I doubt we could do otherwise. Bard is like the special forces of armed forces; we're a force multiplier!!

Re: Why would someone continue to play a job they hate as a main?

I'm leveling BRD because I liked the job (been leveling in Campaign for the past 3 or 4 levels, 70 @10k tnl or something right now) but I'll probably never do any end game stuff because of my lack of time coupled with a massive aversion towards end game linkshells (and people involved in them in general).

Just so you guys can imagine how horrible it is to me.

Imagine Sev.

kk, done?

Now imagine 50 Sev clones in the same LS. Can you see the horror now?

And about playing a job I hate would probably be to give it a bad name. Like for instance leveling DRK or SMN with the crappiest gear possible while using all those Last Resort/Role play macros in say with emotes (maybe a shout or two and lots of <call>s. I don't really hate drk though so I probably wouldnt do it, but you get the idea.

Other than that I would probably go play another game before leveling a job I hate past 37.

Re: Why would someone continue to play a job they hate as a main?

Surely levelling a job you don't enjoy to 75 in order to raise funds for a job you do is the FFXI way of doing things. I had to level paladin to 75 before I could generate the money to level ninja to 75 without gimping myself on gear. Crux of the problem as always comes back to the ability to easily generate money in-game coupled with the lack of desirability of certain jobs in comparison to others. The bard in FFXI, for me at least, was painful as Hell to level but massively in demand. During a recent stint on EQ2 I found the same to be the case with their two bard classes. They're a living nightmare to level giving little or no fun factor to the player but they're massively in demand by parties and raids for the benefit they convey to others. Devs really need to toss the masochistic player template away.
