solo Job combos with NPC?

I know BST/WHM is the golden standard for soloing to high levels in this game. But, if I am only playing when my NPC is out, how about some of these other combos:
BST/PUP
PUP/BST
DRG/BST
DRG/PUP
The idea here would be to have a 4-member solo squad. You, your NPC, and your automaton/wyvern/tamed beast.

You can only have one pet at a time, sadly, so none of those would work. You'd be able to replace your other pet if it died essentially, but the pet would be weakened to your sub's level. So I'd stick with just subbing something more helpful.

It sounds like you have been around FFXI for quite a long time and just want to level an NPC while soloing a job with it. Unfortunately you cannot have two pets as was already stated, but you can still do it with one pet or no pets.

Your NPC could provide enough healing to do it as NIN/WAR, but I bet you already have NIN leveled. The next best option would be BST/NIN since your NPC could provide the healing needed when you steal hate from your pet and shadows run out. My third suggestion would be PUP/WAR with both a healing puppet and your NPC. My final suggestion would be DRG/BLU. Your wyvern and NPC will provide enough healing, and you will do extremely well against Birds, but this is extremely dangerous against anything above EM until you get Drachen Helm.

If you have BST leveled, there would be many more fantastic options such as RDM/BST, BLM/BST, THF/BST, NIN/BST, or RNG/BST. The extra damage from Enspells and Holy Bolts is hate free, so you can easy keep hate on your pet while doing a lot more damage. Also it is loads of fun to end a battle with a huge damage skill or spell while fighting with your pet.
