1. there is no strongest DD job. each job has different strengths, but the current popular flavors seem to be WAR and MNK.
2. there is no DD and tank job. Ninja might be close, but it's more tank than DD. WAR/nin could be close too, but it's more DD than tank.

Re: Stuck.... please help
Don't pick a job strictly because it is the best. Pick it because you enjoy playing it.

Monk - strong and steady damage that improves as you gain levels. Hundred Fists 2 hour is probably the strongest all around DD ability. Main drawback is that Monks have weak skillchain potential for a long time (until at least level 60).

Warrior - can tank, can damage. Very flexible, and (currently) very effective at dealing damage. I personally suspect this job is due a mild nerf in damage dealing, so if you're interested in damage, you might want to figure this into your calculations.

Ranger - the only job that can deal damage consistently from a distance. Does very good damage if you know what you're doing, but very expensive to level. Their raw damage is offset by the fact that their skillchain potential is probably the worst in the game among DDs.

Dark Knight - the only DD job that has magic - and Dark Knight's magic repertoire is now very potent thanks to recent updates that have greatly reduced the casting time on their Absorb spells. Dark Knight is also one of the only jobs that has 2 viable main weapons: Great Sword and Scythe.

Puppetmaster - I don't recommend this job currently as a damage job if you're into big numbers. It's still a new job and still undergoing tweaking for improvements despite the advances that the automaton has gotten in recent updates.

Dragoon - Very solid damage over time, plus some interesting solo capability. The wyvern pet adds a lot of damage. Only drawback is that polearm weaponskills have weak skillchain properties and damage at higher levels (though Dragoons still do great overall combined damage due to the damage ratings on polearms + wyvern attacks).

Samurai - Masters of TP. Damage per hit is good, and they gain eventually gain a weaponskill for every occasion. Can also do absurd amounts of damage with a Ranger subjob once they get access to Sidewinder somewhere around level 60 (but at the price of weaker defenses).

Beastmaster - best solo job in the game. Can contribute a hefty amount of damage in a party, as their pets are the most potent in the game damage-wise.

Thief - weakest job in the game for its first 14 levels, this job comes into its own at level 15 with Sneak Attack. Combined with Trick Attack ability and Assassin trait at later levels, Thief becomes a very potent DD that can rack up huge numbers on weaponskills, though their individual hits are weak. Great skillchain potential at all levels.

Corsair - not really a true DD. You spend a lot of time buffing the party with your Rolls, and guns are very expensive to use. If you want big numbers while shooting stuff, go play Ranger.

Black Mage - not a DD, but should be mentioned simply because as an attacking mage they can put out some very big numbers. Currently suffering from an allergy to parties at level 60+ which makes levelling them very difficult outside of the rare manaburn parties.

Blue Mage - not really a pure DD either, but with a Thief subjob can deal some impressive damage at level 44+. Highly MP-dependent, however, and not a particularly cheap or easy job to level, since it's both very popular and requires that you go and learn each spell from enemies by defeating them while on your blue mage job.
