Wrong, actually! If you remember FFV (which the Blue Mage job originates from, coincidentally), most of the characters as Blue Mages wore masks. However, Krile wore a blue veil and a hat, much like this AF. The only difference is the distinct lack of armor and cape. The cape I was expecting, as Red Mages traditionally wear capes and do not have them in their AF. I suppose the lack of armor is to punch in the whole "mage" thing.

Re: The Official Blue Mage thread (and by extension Aht Urgan)

Now you're making me want to start up FFV and check. But I really hope we don't have to wear some of the geomancer outfits from FFV... (assuming that the buzz about geomancers has some basis in fact)

Anyway, I think some mahoukenshi (sword mages, aka mystic knights and other names) also wore veils, but the overall color of the outfit and the abilities shown do point at blue mage. As much as I'd like to see mahoukenshi sometime, they are not what FFXI needs right now, being mainly a damage dealer.

Re: The Official Blue Mage thread (and by extension Aht Urgan)

Yes, I doubt people would want to go running around in their Pajamas (FFV Geomancers looked like they were in their nighties, honestly). If this buzz about Geomancers is true (which I hope it is, but am not trusting to hope by any means), I hope they opt for the FFT look of Geomancers.

Having Sword Mages (also called Sorcerers on FFV) would be interesting, but honestly they already rolled that up in Red Mage with the En-spells. I suppose they could make a DD job that uses more enchantments to do damage, but I think it would end up being more of a novelty than an actual party effective job.

If they do create more than Blue Mage for this expansion, I doubt they'll exceed 3 jobs. Possibilities are Geomancer, Dancer (this would be rather plausible as they are going with an Arabian style and Dancers always did sort of remind me of Arabian dancers), and possibly Mime (though I can't think of how they'd alter them to make it so that they're not too strong and not too weak). I'm actually expecting there to be Blue Mage and then one other job. Blue Mage was a job that they really needed to include, as there has been a type of Blue Magic/Enemy Skill in every Final Fantasy since FFV, and it would really detract from the game as a whole if they didn't include it. I do hope they have at least three to help balance out the rush of players leveling them, but honestly I'm not expecting it =/.

Has anyone ever thought of the possibility of a new Race? Perhaps a Race on the opposite spectrum of Elvaan (Somewhat strong in MP, but not horrid in HP). I always thought it was odd that there was only one MP strong race. Theres two balance, one that tends toward physical, and one that is all physical, but no race that tends toward magical. Does this make sense to anyone? x_x I'm bad at explaining things.

You mean something like that, Gwynn? It does seem that statistics tend toward the physical among the races. A new race would be very interesting indeed. I imagine if there was a new race halfway in between Taru and Hume that it would become the new favorite race for PLD and DRK (possibly RDM).

And just for the record, My favorite jobs to bring to FFXI would be Mime and Blue Mage. But I'd prefer Mime. I would just love the option to mix and match abilities. . . and then to sub it. :D

Yes! Thats exactly what I meant . This was something I noticed when I first started playing FFXI, and I always thought that if they did add another race then it'd be somewhere between Taru and Hume.

Re: The Official Blue Mage thread (and by extension Aht Urgan)

I personally couldnt find blue mage all useful if it is left like it is in FF. If SE tweeks it at all then it may be a slight help. Pure enfeeble would help a lot, but if the job can only enfeeble certain animals at certain levels then the use goes ffar down. Plus the debuffs would have to be so useful that a BLM wouldnt be a better option or another DD. It all depends on balance.

I would rather prefere other jobs but any job that square can come up with is great. Just balance it well and make it fun. Thats all that matters to me.

Re: The Official Blue Mage thread (and by extension Aht Urgan)

Adding a new race would really create a lot of problems, because your race isn't something you can change at will like your job. They'd either have to allow everyone the option to change their race or there'd be a SERIOUS shortage of the new race. Bottom line: Don't hold your breath looking for a new race.

Re: The Official Blue Mage thread (and by extension Aht Urgan)

As someone mentioned before the Sorcerer/Mage Knight/Mystic Knight is also a class with a long history in the FF series. Now this is personaly my faveorite job in the series and i was thinking about it and everyone has been speculating on every job but this one till recently and id just like to post my theory. The RDM has heavily gimped sword magic (made me very angry). Now my theory is that the Sorcerer could be the speculated new tank if they incresed thier sword magic (ie. level II and III elements and other spells like the original Sorcerers had) and gave them similar magic for thier shield. NIN enfeebles and PLD heals to gain extra hate why not have Sorcerer do magic damage when attacking and getting hit to gain extra hate since thier equipment was nearly identical to PALs and a few wore turbans which the middle eastern theme seems aparent in the BRD JSE and the new job which i agree is Blue Mage. Just my wishful tinking and even though i dont like tanking i would to be a Sorcerer.

Mage Knight

Enialas: Miser Murphy, Come get me, I dare you! (|Provoke|)
Enialas uses Provoke Job Ability.
Miser Morphy starts casting Quake.
Healer: OMG NOOOOOO!
Warlock casts Silence. (resisted, no MM is silenced line)
Enialas uses Runic Job Ability.
Miser Murphy casts Quake.
Enialas absorbs Quake! (successful Runic, more emnity than a failed Runic)
133 MP Gained! (I think Quake is 300+ mps, this should be a portion)
Party: ???
Party: (|All Right|)

Inspiration: Celes FFVI "Mage/Mystic Knight"

if this job/ability was put in, Runic would be required to be <t> otherwise if it worked like FFVI, then if anyone casted you would absorb thier spell, plus in FFVI you can choose not to have party cast, you can't prevent others in FFXI, otherwise bye bye Fire III MB.

Re: The Official Blue Mage thread (and by extension Aht Urgan)

huh, sounds pretty interesting. I never thought of having a Runic Knight job, but it could work if they didn't overpower it. They could just throw Runic and Sorceror together...

Re: The Official Blue Mage thread (and by extension Aht Urgan)

Did you know that in FF5, FFTA, and FF8, you could use Blue Magic while silenced? Not a coincidence, says I.

/em mentally adds points to the "They'll use TP!" faction.

(Alright, Quistis doesn't count if Angel Wings or Slot work while silenced too... gotta check.)

...in FF8, enemy skills were Quistis' limit break and in FFTA & FFV, they both used MP, so.....gg

Re: The Official Blue Mage thread (and by extension Aht Urgan)

Blue Mage will be like a advance Red Mage. They melee except they get their spells from in battles from Enemies. Than use spells obtain with the MB that they get. Blue have a sword on official site.
