DRG vs SAM
Trying to decide wich to play in my DRK, PLD, WHM, RDM, BRD static...and wich is more fun, etc. I'd just like to know pro's and con's of each and their party role and to help decide wich is more fun..thanks.

On it's own if you were to parse it, drg/war would have noticablely higher damage over time than sam, as well as drk easily(not sure about post 66 though). My main is 60 thief but I play bard in a LS static which we're 39-40 at the moment in, and I get to watch what the others do. Also not to mention our equips are all above average. Sniper/venerers, emperor hairpins, LLs, HQ weapons as the highlights for our drk(65 blm) and drg(57pld), and all the other smaller importent things.

Our dragoon without WSs hands down has the highest damage over time with hits coming in around 80 damage at the least with berserk on(and my bard song valor minuet II), and breaks 100 damage on normal swings often. And surprisingly enough, his double thursts(150-360) completely destroys our drk's slice(100-250). They are both of absolute top offensive gear equips for our level plus they're getting an edge from me the bard so it shouldn't be a troublesome thing to compare since you guys will have a bard as well.

I really doubted dragoon but he's our main damage dealer without the wyvren, with it add another few 1000 damage per parsing over 4 hours.

Our setup is pld, brd, whm, blm, drg, drk all in the same LS, with top notch equips. We can afford it easily since they're not our mains and can lend each other snipers, hairpin, instructments, astrals, and soon staves. And note our numbers are with bard using HQ instrutments(sp).

ANYWAY BIG BEN THINK LIKE THIS ITS LIKE HEY GUYS WHY BE RACIST?? RACISM HURTS EVERYBODY ON INSIDE MAKE BIG BEN SADFACE ITS ALL ABOUT SKILLS CUZ WHEN BIG BEN HAD TO WORK ON FARM AS CHILD BEN HAD TO MAKE FARMING PT MADE OF ASIAN MAN BLACK MAN(THATS ME) MEXICAN MAN CHECHOSLOVAKIAN MAN AND IT WAS BEST FARMING PT EVER CAUSE ALL MEN HAD HQ SHOVELS AND TRACTORS AND KNOW HOW TO PLAY SO FARMING WAS QUITE GOOD

Is it just me or are there one too many DRG vs <melee> threads at the moment?

I see a few drg vs drk and drg vs sam threads as well, personally I think drg are more DoT, but sam are great, probly better than drg 65+ with sata gekko, and theyre also useful endgame for doing sc's on HNMs, etc. Where drg arent brought along much, theyre used for opening drk sc's and I hear theyre broughten to some fights such as fafnir for ancient circle

You know how you say DRG can get better than SAM DoT? I aint disputing that but when you have a DRG and SAM together, does the Renkei Damage increase significantly enough? I havent pted with a SAM in a while...there just hasnt been any around lately or something for the time i pt...so does anyone have parser logs to show that? Becuase i am guessint that since SAMs dont outdmg DRG DoT-wise...then assuming they can renkei more so the SC dmg is more? Or am i just wrong?

Anyway, I think DRG are better until 65. DRG will do more damage with Wyvern but after 65 Tachi: Gekko makes SAMs excel more than DRGs.

DRG is tought to work with at the beginning levels. At some points the wyvern may aquire more hate then you and will die, and I really didn't appreciate the 2-hour wait. Otherwise, it shouldn't happen past 10.
Wyvern also adds a whole bunch of new abilities to the party such as 'Elemental Breaths' that go along as you use your weapon skill, and it attacks when you do.

SAM is fun because it is a job that constantly ups your TP. Weapon skills in this job occur much more often, and that is a definite plus!

I think DRG/SAM is also a very valid choice. Bringing more TP-boosting passive abilities to the plate.

That's my opinion.

My HNM LS ------NEVER-------- uses Dragoons endgame, because they suck. Low damage WSes compared to other DDs makes them worthless.

In EXP PTs though, I'd say DRG is very good to have until you hit 60. From 60+ SAM will outdamage the DRG with SATA yukikaze (then gekko, then kasha).

This game was designed in a way that TP > all. So what I'm saying is, the job that can gather 100TP the fastest will do the most damage.

The 2 fastest TP gaining jobs are: Ranger & Samurai, and from what I've seen at endgame, the most overpowered melee. High delay lances don't really do any favours for DRGs

Personally, I'm a DRK75, NIN75 and SAM62, and while I have an Adaman Hauberk and the rest of the best endgame gear for DRK, I still pale in comparison to RNGs and SAMs, who build TP alot faster than I, and doing comparable damage to mine. Meh. If I can't beat them, I'll join them.

I really should thank you for it afterall it was your life that taught me the purpose of all life.....Purpose of life, is to end.

I hate my life.

With the above poster though, it's really all about the subjob you choose. Being a DRG picking either WAR or SAM is a great choice.
At about 75 your choices really expand, and if anything, you should realize that with a sub, you're really booosted with passive abilities. TP+ etc.

Dragoons are very strong until 60, and still quite good through Boyahda Tree because you'll be fighting flies and crawlers until 67 or so. Throughout the game as far as I've seen, a DRG/WAR will outdamage a SAM/anything, assuming both have optimal gear. DRG has more accuracy, higher base damage weapons (god GKTs SUCK!), jumps, and a little bit of a strength advantage.

I'd take a dragoon before a samurai in most party setups. DRK + DRG is a good combination. RNG + DRK or WAR + DRK is better, but it's definitely better than DRK + SAM.

Samurai = Dragoon

I think they are both good dd, because, SAM/RNG is awesome with Sidewinder. And with Meditate you can do alot of damage with your TP, I think DRGN 2hr is better DoT but SAM 2hr is wicked, I mean just sat you have 300TP and use Sidewinder then use your 2hr and throw off 3 WS, which equals 4 WS which (if done right) can be 2 SC. Depending on what you fight this can be over 1.5k DMG, assuming you do 300-500 each WS. But then again over time a Wyvern can do like 5k dmg, but, they have a health bar which means the moment you take it out if it gets hate or gets hit with some mad AOE (like fly's AOE in Valkrum) then it could only be like 400 damage or so. So I think there just about even. Then SAM gets faster pts and after 65+ theyre more likely to be invited to HNM LS. So I guess you be whatever you want. I think that DRG is cheaper tho.

Both are equal in all senses of the word party wise. Each is a damage dealer and does damage a different way...be it by Starting skill chains or having a wyvern smack enemies around.

In PvP? not sure really

#1- Figure out what is more important to you, the trip to 75, or the activities past 75. There's nothing wrong with saying the trip there- some people never really want to do HNMs or Sky, etc. It's boring sometimes and is borderline *work*.

#2- Figure out if gear means anything to you. Sam gets to wear all the god gear, gets access to a decent, but not spectacular cursed set. DRG AF is slightly more useful than sam AF but both kind of suck. DRG dynamis AF is really, really, nice.

#3- If you have a static party, choose whatever you want. If you have to seek all the way to 75, don't play either. Neither job gets the respect they deserve.
