Most useful melee VS HNMs, etc.
Dark knight
Monk
Samurai
Dragoon

Having some trouble choosing a class, and I'm a little confused..so I'm hopeing this will help This poll isn't only VS HNMs, but also dynamis, the gods and all of that type. So, post reasons why they are useful and their role, and the right/most useful subs if you would. I'm also not sure if different jobs would be more useful in some types than others..so post your info about it, thank you.

The most useful is WAR, because they can do everything. Tank, high WS numbers, high damage over time.

The jobs you listed are all useful.

DRK is useful because of stun and high WS damage, but generally lose out after the first WS when it comes to dealing damage.

MNK is the most damaging out of all them, since they can do 1k+ damage every 3 minutes with Chi Blast.

Samurai is also very damaging since they can put up ~1k damage WS every 6 minutes or less. They're ability to have both light and dark skillchains with the same weapon is also very good.

DRG is useful because they can start darkness....and that's about it.:sweat:

Yes drk mnk and war are really good but drg isnt just for starting darkness, whats cool about drg is it can change what type of fighter it is by its sub. if you have war, sam, or other meele sub its an ok tank and good str and whenever u use a weapon skill ur wyvern will use an elemental breath attack, if u have a sub that uses weapons and magic such as drk or red mage, ur not made for tanking but still good cause if you use ws then an elm breath happens but when you use magic and you and/or you pts hp is 1/3 it will cast a healing breath so this type of wyvern is attack and healing, and finally if u use a magic sub like blm or whm, when u use magic the healing breath takes place. so it depends on what you want., heres a recap

Meele sub- ok tank, offensive wyvern

meele/magic sub- not a tank, balanced wyvern

magic sub- not a tank, good for solo and healingf wyvern.

Are the gods, dynamis, and all of that different from HNMs? I just wanna be able to have fun in all of those areas with a melee class, and not be useless.. I'm mostly looking to play DRK, SAM, and MNK. I know it may not be good as RNG or anything but I won't have fun with RNG..

I've pondered about this.
I saw kitty's comment, and I'd have to say that I've found a better way to use samurai. it's dirty, but it's valid. I call it the "suicide spirits samurai".

When you activate meikyo shisui, all your WS only take 100% tp, but they are counted as 300%. because of this, and samurai being tiered second in hp, go sam/mnk.

Load up on FULL +hp gear, nothing else. Max hp. Should get just over 1600. That's 800 dmg on spirits.

Wield an onion sword, for style points.

run in, let pld's flash and stuff, then say: Cover Prz.
Smash off first 800spirits. Meikyo. Second spirits. Meditate. Third Spirits. wait 3 sec. Fourth spirits. By this time, you're meditate has given you at least 100 tp back, but you're still on meikyo timer, meaning you'll get another full dmg spirits. 5th spirits.

Watch cover timer run out, and wait for tractor + r3.
If no AoE's or nasty cone attacks hit you, you'll crank 4k dmg in 15-ish seconds. That's kinda ok for a melee.

Of course, you'll be totally useless in all other aspects, but... you can't have everything and THEN some pie. ^^
