Yeh it is pretty stupid, personally i only went tarutaru because its the best race for mages with extra MP. I didnt think people actually thought they were cute. When im in a party usually i get called cute all the time, and galkas ALWAYS use the "/em sits on cavill." or "/em steps on cavill." which i find quite annoying, but i dont try to attract attention by being "cute" i just do my job, if there is another tarutaru in the party i watch them and i start laughing just by the way they run around the place, i didnt realise i looked so funny when i ran lol

It's just not my thing. The whole deal with tanking, pulling, skillchaining. eehhh x_X not my game. I like my spells and know elemental weaknesses. Its just how I like to play the game.

Does this mean I think that mages are all we need and melees are crap? HECK NO. My most admired party role is the tank role. (and the puller role, I once saw my friend pull a crawler at CN in between two other crawlers. I dont know how he did it, but if I were to have done it, I woulda brought 3 crawlers back at camp and promptly gotten everyone killed)

I hope the people who hate on tarus and mages meet better players. and keep an open mind that there are tarus who love their melee party matey-wateys very much.

Good point! I must say now i do realise that tanks deserve the most respect because they are the ones who put there life on the line and have to rely on a stranger to keep them alive. In real life i wouldnt like to have my life in some strangers hands.

I have a couple points here.

Taru tend to talk cute because it's easly identified with them. If your playing a Hume, well how do humes talk? Elvaan, what do they sound like? Taru. Well, it's easy to know what a taru sounds like. Which leads to the next....

We are all playing FFXI but I dont think we're all playing the same game.

To some of us we're playing a Stragity game. You take on quests and aproch it from a problem solving point of view.

Some of us are playing a Action game. It's all about what kind of fight we have and the SFX we see.

Some of us are playing a Role Playing Game. Like D@D we take on roles and act out another persona.

Most of the cute types are playing this last one.

The "jerks" that turn someone down because they don't want a sertan type of class in the party are probably playing the first kind.

The one's that focus on their role in a party over the party as a whole are probably playing the Action approch. Like most action games they take the role of the "main" character and everyone else is there to back them up.

Try to find partys that are playing the "same" game you are and you'll be alot happier.

So far everytime I've met an irritating person, its actually pretty interesting that only certain types come from certain races so far. Its like a look into personality almost. Its like this

Hume's: Annoying types of Hume's I see are usually attention whores, people who seem "spacy", learning impaired, or just plain obnoxious people. In other words...player's with the HUmar syndrome (The "I want to be the main character!" thing) Not so much with the females. My worst experiences are usually with Hume. (I love Hume's though, l; ; )
Mithra: The annoying Mithra I meet are usually incredibly high strung and go overkill on sex jokes. Basically its like if you put a perverted man inside a woman's body, would he feel himself?
Elvaan: The irritating Elvaan I've met, hands down, power hungry stubborn people, who care less about the opinion's of other people. Its they're way or the pt goes to hell. Also the most likely to try to assume control of a party if they arn't leader, for whatever reason. Seems like people obsessed with looking and being cool, and being the guy who always knows best. The Elf fanatic?
Galka: I've actually only met one irritating Galka, they're usually pretty cool. This one guy just didn't seem to ever read the chat log at all, never learned from his mistakes and was incredibly stubborn about people pointing mistakes out. Probably chose the race cause it was big and buff and HaRdCorEz.
Tarutaru: The few irritating Tarutaru's I've met are the ones that never seem to have any kind of "team devotion". You know the type, they Warp and disband the moment the tank seems to get hit in a panic. That or they're "pretend perverted". You know, where they seem to be trying to be perverted for attention, but its obviously just a lame act. Obviously, they picked Tarutaru's with a twisted sense of humor.

The percentage of irritating people I've met is actually pretty small. But usually when I see someone even a little grating they almsot always seem to act like the same negative stereotype of they're respective race. Its kinda interesting in a strange way. :D Any of you guys ever get that impression?

Remember too...we're all irritating at once point or another. (Just don't try to be, god knows we need more of those types. )

I'll have to disagree. I play as a mithra and its usually not this for most mithra i know including myself. Personal experiences i dont get high strung or overkill on sex jokes but if the party has no idea what to do 40 + or ive been partying for like 13 hours on a mission then i'll get very very angry. As for tarus and warping that happens a lot.

The (not so) rare selfish mages (especially white mages it seems) who think the PT revolves around them piss me off... I had a whm in my PT at Qufim last nite who wouldn't heal me (main tank, war/mnk) b/c he "can't take a single hit from these enemies."
O_o Last time I checked a good whm couldn't rip the hate off me when I used Provoke every 30 seconds... He was Taru, and was def trying to pull that "cuteness" factor... But this wasn't a macro, he actually took time out of the battle to type "Look at me I can dance!!!" Ugh, so my PT (3 of the members were from my LS, so it was easier to keep it together) stood him for 40 minutes at which time I gave a tell to a replacement and sent him on his way... Now this is the priceless part, he says "OMFG you n00bs, you can't do anything without a whm the PT will fall apart!" Then he just sits there for the next 10 minutes cheering on everything we fight, and probably just stared in awe when he saw our new whm come up and heal me consistently (taking a couple of hits tops the whole 2 hrs that PT lasted.) Heh... /end rant

i think most people's race choices are influenced by their character irl, more then what job they are good for or not. i picked galka because i like to shut up and do what i gotta do, compared to people who like to express themselves, who might pick taru/hume. im not claiming this is 100 % the case but this is a constant vibe i get playin this game.

Tis quite true, in real life though im quite tall and i go to the gym, yet i have a small lil taru as a character lol. I like to muck around and be silly so i guess it suits me.

I totally agree! We are just playing our role RPG (Role Playing Game) which is what FFXI is, our role is to be funny looking and cute and small, so thats what we must act, its in the script lol.

when i first started the game i was a whm tar, prob the cutest of helpless u can get. Anyway, when i reached level 12, i asked myself the question "do i really wanna play as a "cute character with a deformed body?" i then deletd that character and started playing as a hume(that looks like me) warrior, the game completely changed in all aspects. But most of all, the game was waaaay more fun for me and i didnt have to play as one of those damn tarus....

i remember i had a rdm in yuhtunga jungle (my profile is way off and im too lazy to fix it) who all he did was melle so me and the blm say "why dont you cast some debuffs?" he replies with "debuffs?" so we say you know paralyse gravity dia he says " paralyse?" we say "YES!" him "i dont have that" he continues for like 5 fights as if we dident say anything then we say ' CAST SOEMETHING!!! YOUR A MAGE" so he cast aero witch does like 10 dmg.

anyway it was wierd cause he had all updated equipment and a whm sub . he also seemed to have all the buffs like protect and the en spells.

go figure
