I took a break from the game and recently came back. I have ToAU but other then hanging out in White Gate and a few xp parties in the surrounding areas…I have no idea what {Runic Portal} means…

I constantly see people having 6/6 (or 5/5 which is correct?) in their search comment. And when people ask if I have them, I feel like an idiot saying…”um…no, how do I get them”. Usually at that point party members grumble and I’ll suggest leaving the party. I figure it’s my fault for not having them so why make everyone else suffer.

I’ve had a little trouble finding how to obtain these…can someone please point me in the right direction??

Well I am at work so I can't post the links, but if you go to FFXIcyclopedia.com and type in Runic Portals you will find all the info you could ever want about them.

To put it in the most simplest terms, Runic Portal is the ToAU's version of Outposts. From there it's usually a short (and often dangerous) walks to the popular high end (65-75) party camps.

Is this pretty much ToAU Misison 2? I just recently went to the staging point in the western part of Caedarva Mire, talked to the NPC and used the portal to go back. Does this mean I now have 1/6 runic portal?

Is running to the stage points pretty much the gist of getting these?

Yes. You have to use each portal to get back to the Whitegate and you 'have' it.

Yep, and I would recommend getting all of them because you will getting invited to camps near all of the RPs (cept maybe Illrusi, lawl). Other than needing them for exp camps, if you ever do assaults RPs will save you (and your group) a lot of travel time.

On the "5/5" and "6/6" thing:

Originally when ToAU came out there were only five staging points...off the top of my head I can't list em, let alone spell em correctly, but I know one is through Halvung, the other is through Mamook, one is east of Nashmau and the last two are through Arrapango. To access the points you had to travel to each one on foot, then teleport back to Whitegate via the Portals, effectively unlocking each one for you.

Midway through ToAU, a sixth Runic Portal was added, this one know as the Nyzul Isle staging point. It's located in a massive underwater building that actually stretches through out the empire. It has numerous entrances and exits and once inside you can pretty much travel to anywhere in the Empire safely on foot...if you could figure out the maps/teleporters. As a Staging Point, this is mainly used by lvl 75s to travel to some exp camps or to access the Nyzul Isle Assault missions, but is generally not as utilized as much as the others outside those situations.

These points are all easy to obtain solo, especially if you're skilled at Aggro avoidance and map reading/directions, and they can all be gotten in a day. Once you have them, you can return back to them at any time by paying 200 IS to the Taru Guard outside the Portal Platform in Whitegate or for "free" by accepting Assault missions (however, if you have an assault mission you'll teleport for free but you won't be allowed past the gate).

These portals are the AU equivalent of Tele Crystals and OP warps in conquest, and are pretty much required forms of transportation within the empire.
