why am I forced to do this quest?
I recently hit lvl 50(which I was excited about.) and to my surprise found out I have to do a quest to advance past lvl 50. I had no problem with having to do a quest to be able to get to lvl 51, until I read what the quest(the G-1) quest involved(killing 3 nm in hell zones). I can see having you have to do a quest to advance to a higher level if they started it at lvl 30, but to all of a sudden force you to do a quest to simply lvl up is not right. I probably wouldn't get upset except for the fact that it is a quest which is IMPOSSIBLE TO SOLO. Thanks to SE, I am basically stuck at lvl 50 until I can convince(or bribe) at least 1-2 high lvl players(at least lvl 70) to help. Since I am time constrained this will probably take me a week(im on for about 2hrs a night).

I realize this is a game that pushes partying, but to force you to find a party to do this type of quest is just wrong at lvl 50(make skill-up quests like this but not quests to simply lvl up). Probably not many people will agree with my suggestion to SE(I know questions to SE are supposed to go into a different location but this is more a quest rant then a question to SE), but I suggest that all the "G" quests should be soloable.

Get some lvl 75 friends and a 75 thf to help you with it. Sometimes its cake, sometimes its easy, all depends on papyrus drop rate. Doing this with 6 people who all need it, though, will undoubtedly take all day and then some and you still may not end up with that item.

I'm not so much surprised at the fact SE puts in manditory quests like this. I was surprised that my lvl is capped at this point because my lvl is not in blue(which is the usual sign that something is currently capped on you).

I guess just be grateful for the little things. Like when you finish the quest and get that last experience point, that it doesn't say TNL: 10,000. Especially since its another 5 levels or so before you see the next big jump in a good pt's exp/hr.

I think some of the Genkais were done in alliances in the past. To be honest, that seemed more fun than the typical "get a couple of high level people to help" thing we do these days.

Re: why am I forced to do this quest?
The original level cap was 50 when the game first came out by the way.

Nothing to say about the subjob quest (which could have been done with a normal level party) or the extra job quests (which also could have been done with a party at that level)?

Genkai 1 items can be obtained with a lv48-50 party (I got 2/3 while leveling normally, and the third with friends). Genkai 2 will need more, but I'm not sure how much it's been toned down. (I went with a 36 person double alliance, actually really fun). Genkai 3, 4, and 5 are soloable.

Re: why am I forced to do this quest?
I did all my lower Genkais in "ye ald Alliance" (generally full 18 plus outside help) because back in the day, it really was one of the only ways it'd happen. Everyone needed it, and the "high level help" consisted of maybe two or three people that had gotten to 60-75 only about a month earlier, and weren't the pimpest of players (I still remember when news hit of the first full Kirin set had been finished on Kujata; yes, that long ago). We had a blast because everyone had to pull their own weight, and a lot of people knew each other, and there wasn't any way to know if we would succeed until the mob fell down.

Of course, that was also working under quite a bit of a different system back then, and the NMs were actually a lot harder, too. SE already nerfed the mobs, NMs, and drop rates to make the quests easier, but by no means are they soloable, nor are they meant to be. This game very much pushes party play because that's what the game is built around. Solo exists, yes, but it in no way surpasses party play in terms of XP efficiency outside of very few factors (and even then, you need party play to even be able to get to those factors to begin with). Why should this be any different?

The original level cap for the entire game was 50. It seems perfectly reasonable to require quests to break past that cap, and subsequent caps, that SE implemented as a bit of a "test" of the player to enjoy higher level play.

Re: why am I forced to do this quest?
Yes Genkai 1 can be a royal pain in the arse if you don't do it the right way. As others have expressed, if you exp on the mobs that drop the items then you will kill 2 birds with one stone. When my son and husband started to play I already had a higher lvl character but I leveled another job with them. When we got near level 50 I encouraged our static to go exp on the mobs that drop the genkai items. They sure fought me because there were easier mobs to level on but I convinced them. In the end, they all said that it was a lot smarter to do it the way I suggested and they were glad that they did.

Ya, but he's got 5 levels before he complains about G2. Though you're right, the G1 mobs aren't NM's.

Re: why am I forced to do this quest?
If you want to understand why you have to do these quests, imagine that the level cap had just been raised and only a portion of the server was at max level. It was "endgame" content back then, and funnel through which the entire server had to pass.

I didn't have help from anybody higher than level 62 on Genkai and AF, it really made the quests seem like a challenge and an experience that increased your skill. I'd never made alliances, or had to stealth around high level creatures (or magic aggro), and I met quite a lot of people and learned who to trust or avoid. When I finally roasted Maat it was pretty gratifying. Apart from papyrus hunting I actually enjoyed doing them.

These days genkai is pretty much a joke; just an unnecessary obstacle to new players. They can't be done as they were intended anymore... players aren't gonna learn much from 'em.

Edit: Soloing the Yagudo part of G3 isn't really practical.
