Missionary Man. How Was It For you?
I'm off to do this quest in the Yuhtunga Jungle.
Missionary Man

Been reading through 1 or 2 of the posts on there, and it seems that a few have been saying that the drop rate for this elshimo marble is ridiculous.
I'm just wondering if anyone else here has gone through this quest too, and if so, how were the drop rates for you guys here? How many kills did it take you to get it?

Is it REALLY so important of a quest to do anyway? What's the point of it?

I think I'm going to try the other tele quest for Alteppa too.
The Missing Piece
It seems a bit more of a complicated process to go through than the other one, (hope I dont die out there! just use invis I guess) but it will be handy for making a quick trip there, since I'm under the impression that, that is where you can go for partying at level 40+ (well that, and maybe still at the Crawlers Nest too)

What are the opinion's on this from you guys here please?

The title of this thread made me laugh ..

The drop rate is pretty bad, but not half as bad as the drop rate for say pre-patch Ancient Papyrus or Tavnazia Bell. But y'know, like most drops it's random. I've gone out and gotten it on the first mob once and another time I was out there hunting with friends for like 4 hours.

hehehe snap

Took me about 6 hours of camping total to get the drop, mostly about half of that with a high level thf helping me. It was horrible but I know people who have gotten it much faster than I did.

How important is it? If your party want to go to the goblin camp outside Ifrits Cauldron in the 40s, they might be a bit sulky if you don't have it. It's a nice fast route to Norg and the places of Yhoator Jungle if you don't have the OP warp yet and it tends to let you telewhore for a bit more money if you do that much. I just like being able to get around fast, for free and whenever I feel like it, it's one of the huge perks of being a whm.

I soloed the Altepa one and it's actually not difficult if you make sure you know exactly where you are going. If you don't have a map already I strongly suggest printing off (or drawing) a map of the Quicksand caves, making sure you have all the ledge drops and item spawn locations marked.

It also helps if you make sure you know where the entrances you want come out in up top because if I remember right you need to enter the caves through a couple of different entrances to check all the places the item could spawn. Also you need sneak for Anticans, acccording to wiki nothing actually sight aggros in Quicksand Caves.

Re: Missionary Man. How Was It For you?
Unfortunately I just DON'T feel at all confident enough to do these tele quests at all!! They're just too difficult, and I feel I wont be able to do them without any help!

Ive been in Yuhtunga for a short while today, trying to get this marble, but I really hated it, because the stupid goblin smiths kept getting in the way, and there is NO WAY a that a WHM can cope with 2 mobs at once! I only just managed to get 1 lizzy on its own, and all it dropped was a tail. (this is with WHM/THF)
Next time I went through it, I unfortunately got a lizzy link, so I couldn't cope with that either!!

Theyre just too damned difficult I'm afraid! (Ive already got the other 3 teles though - Dem, Mia and Holla. They were easy.)

I could wait and see if I can get any help from anyone ingame, but if I don't, then I'm just wondering, if I was to change servers, would anyone here be able to help me at all? With the recent server hopping option, I'm aware that you have to wait 3 months if you wanted to go back again. (I think that's right, but please feel free to tell me otherwise if I'm wrong) I would be okay with this if it's okay to do that.
I maybe thinking wrong though. I'm not sure.

Edit : Sorry about the title I chose. /blush!
It wasn't until I read a couple of your posts that it made me realise that it could be meant as something else.... something which is actually somewhat rude, sexually. I presume that's why it made you laugh, I think. If not, then I've just completely embarrassed myself in the process. But if I'm right, then I'll spare the explicits. This isn't the right place for it after all.

Re: Missionary Man. How Was It For you?
Oh I didn't notice that you had posted on the other quest too- My mistake that one is easy even more-so since you'r a WHM. I would bring a scroll of insta-warp in case you need to click and run though.

But about the Missionary Man quest, Just go and maybe lvl without it. In all honesty you shouldn't need that teleport for a while, and by the time you do need it you could just save up by farming other things you can kill and buy it~

Well good luck and I would help you by comming to my server IF I was able to play.

So, bold. Really?

Anyway, you'd be better off just buying the scrolls on the AH if you can't solo the quest, or get some assistance with it. Then you can come back later and do the quest solo when you're a higher level.

Re: Missionary Man. How Was It For you?
Don't worry about the title. That I found it funny says more about my character than yours, really.

/thf is well and good to improve drop rates, but it doesn't provide much in the way of other tools, so if you can't handle the mobs normally it doesn't help you much. If you subbed blm you could Sleep links if your enfeebling skill is any good. You could also set your home point in Kazham so you could warp out and not have that far to travel back if you got into a situation you really feel like you couldn't handle.

That said, whm isn't a really strong solo class in the mid levels. Getting a friend to help you would make things go a lot faster, or you could go with Murphie's advice.

Re: Missionary Man. How Was It For you?
I've decided to drop the tele quest for Yhoatar now, and go and try out for Alteppa instead. Ya know, I haven't even had a go at doing this quest yet, so I guess there's no harm in giving it a try.

@ "Taskmage"
I agree that having BLM as sub instead of THF would probably be better, and Warp was actually the one thing I could think of which would be very handy for making a quick transport back to Kazham, especially since I still havent really mastered the technique of trying to make my own way back there without getting lost, so yeah.... warp is very good indeed! But since the drop rate is terrible for that marble, like I said, I'm going to leave that quest for a while now and try coming back to it later on instead, preferably when I have gained a couple more levels. At least it will make for less aggro with the goblins by then.

Regarding Sleep....
I've checked my enfeeble skill, and it's at lvl 64.
How do you rate that for putting enemies to sleep? And how long does it last?

@ "Everyone"
I guess I won't really have a map of the Quicksand Caves for the Alteppa Tele quest, and I've read that the only way to get a map for it, is by coffer only.
So obviously you would have to kill a few mobs in there to get a key...... quite beyond my level there yet I guess, and so very nervously, I shall try and sneak my way through for the item spawn location, hoping that I never get killed in the process.

I think I'm going to need some luck here. Hope I get this sucessfully!

Oh, and btw..... I don't think I'd want to buy the scrolls off the the AH to be honest, as they are very expensive! Last I checked (earlier on today) on Fenrir, they are roughly around 50k each, and I just don't have enough gil for them right now! I feel it better to quest them instead.

Re: Missionary Man. How Was It For you?
I just tried "Missionary Man" for the first time last night as 42WHM/21BLM. I killed 3 lizards, got one lizard tail. I then got a link, and ran for the zone, I hit the zone and got a red message that said I didn't qualify for the zone (or something like that) and ended up dead and level 41. A couple of things that I did wrong: 1. I forgot to have reraise up. 2. I forgot that I had just gained sleep earlier that day when I finally got WHM high enough. 3. I was just a little impatient on pulling the lizards, and had I been less so, it probably wouldn't have gone so badly. I'll definitely be trying it again...I may wait a couple of levels and see if the goblins become too weak.

As for the Altepa quest. That was a piece of cake to do as a WHM. I play on a PS3, so I had the wiki site up (for the map) and ran around with sneak and invis up. (Wiki says you just need sneak, but I wasn't taking chances.) Anyway, that one is definitely soloable if you choose to do it.

Re: Missionary Man. How Was It For you?
64 is pretty low for level 40. The cap for that level is 114. You probably want at least 100ish to land Sleep reliably. If unresisted, Sleep lasts for one minute.

The yhoat scroll is about 150k, and altep is ~50k. It sounds like a lot of money, but compared to the trouble you're going through it's really not that much and the rewards are more consistent. At the rate you're going you might spend 6 hours attempting those quests, lose some exp in the process and if you're unlucky still end up with nothing. If you spend that much time farming say, giant spiders in altepa, you're much safer and would probably collect nearly enough spider webs to pay for both scrolls. It's more boring, but also safer and more consistent.

But, y'know, do whatever is fun for you.

I thought the same thing when I saw the title. You're not the only one.

As for the thread. It took me and my GF days and days before it finally dropped in Yhoater. Pain in the ass if you ask me.

I don't mind the other quests for the scrolls, but that one will be one I will just buy for myself. :-P

Killed about 2-3 giant spiders today on the way to Alteppa (with WHM/BLM) and what did I get.... absolutely NOTHING at all! (well apart from a few exp, but that was about all I got. /sigh!)
What a complete waste THAT was! I might try killing them with WHM/THF next time.

I'll have to go back and check it out again, but if that scroll for Tele Alteppa is around 50k on AH, I might just have enough, by the skin of my teeth, and perhaps buy it instead. Ill have to think about it.

As for the Tele Yhoatar quest one..... I'm going to wait now til I've gained maybe 2 or 4 more levels of WHM, then I'll feel confident enough to give it another shot without the worry of aggro from the goblins getting in the way!
I'm definitely NOT paying 150k for a scroll I can perhaps get with a few tries a bit later on!
WAAAYYYYY too expensive in my opinion Im afraid!
