Re: Missionary Man. How Was It For you?

Why do you want to kill Giant Spiders? They've got nothing to do with the Teleport-Altep quest at all. Did you even read what the quest entails?

Re: Missionary Man. How Was It For you?

Altep is much more important that Yhoat anyway. The altepa area is good for a pretty wide range of levels, whereas there's one maybe two good exp camps in yhoator and nobody really uses them.

Spider webs are a pretty rare drop. I'm not surprised you didn't get one after only a few kills. But if you sub thf and spend a long time there you'll probably walk away with some cash.

If you spend that much time farming say, giant spiders in altepa, you're much safer and would probably collect nearly enough spider webs to pay for both scrolls. It's more boring, but also safer and more consistent.

The Altep quest is easy and short..................I'd much rather do that than pay 50k for it......I may have to check out these spiders, though.....I can't afford spells, and I really want Haste and Cure IV!!!

Can I solo them as 42WHM/21/BLM?

The spiders in the eastern desert are 30-34, so you're high enough level. Before anyone gets mad at me for giving bad farming advice, I just looked up mobs on somepage or ffxi-atlas that were low enough level to solo that had valuable drops. I make no guarantee about the drop rate.

Re: Missionary Man. How Was It For you?

The altepa quest is just sneaking yourself looking for a ??? point. There's nothing to kill for it so I don't really see how it can be so bad that a WHM or RDM or /WHM, /RDM couldn't do it.

Oh, and use ffxi-atlas.com to get around as they should have all the possible ??? marked.

I guess it's just because I have no map for the area, that I feel rather nervous about going round there solo without one.

I actually got a little started on doing it..... and I think it was either yesterday or the day before. I got so far down the hallway of the caves in there, (where I passed what looked like a group partying there at the time) and reached the end where there was a drop at the right hand corner there. (with an antican mob stood near it)

Now, I was trying to follow the instructions for this from the "alla" link I noted earlier, and I didn't really understand it. It says something about falling down the eastern or western side of the drop, and I'm rather confused, because it's not like a round hole.... its rectangular and the only way to go down it, is to just drop straight down! You can't drop East or West, so I don't know what on earth "alla" is going on about!

When I got there though, I'm quite certain that I had something casted on me from a mob somewhere in the vicinty, (most likely antican) so without knowing where to go next, I just decided to drop down..... then decided to warp back to Eastern Alteppa where I set my hp. Was too scared to continue on from there unfortunately!

Oh....okay.... do you SEE any ??? marked on here?

Quicksand Caves

I certainly don't! Unless I need glasses.

The only ??? I see on there are 2. One is marked for a NM called "Tribunus Vll - l" (3rd map down) and the other one is for a quest related monster called "Girtablulu" (6th map down) And I certainly don't think either of those 2 have anything to do with the Tele Alteppa quest at all!

It would be very handy if all the ??? were marked on there for this patricular quest, as it would help me to find them easily, but unfortunately, they aren't.

I guess I could still try and get a few maps printed though, but I'm not sure how much ink I have.

I'll try and do it a couple of times, and see how far I get.

Re: Missionary Man. How Was It For you?

Sub BLM. Warp if things look bad.

Honestly, the game isn't that scary of a place. I soloed Beastmen stronghold parts of my Rank 5 (where you had to infiltrate and get to the magicite), by myself when I was at lvl 40, because I was SICK of taking Chocobos for a 20-30 minute ride anywhere. At the time I was leveling Clothcraft, so riding from Windy to Jeuno to Bastok or something for ingredients took WAY too long.

I'll be blunt, you have to be driven. We can give you advice, but we can't babysit the quest with you...

I think the spiders in Alteppa are probably aboout the only things which are close enough to be able to solo at the moment, as everything else is either a "T" or "IT"

Oh, and btw - on Fenrir, (and this is just in Sandy) the Tele Alteppa scroll sells for nearly 80 to 100k on the AH. So I presume that would roughly be around the same price in Windy, Bastok, and Jeuno too. So therefore I'm definitely NOT buying it from there..... not at that price ever!

It makes sense when you look at it calmly. Look at the first map (on ffxi-atlas.com) for the Quicksand caves at I and J-7. You see a red arrow pointing south then two others, one pointing east and one pointing west. You can first only fall down at the middle at the first arrow, but then you choose to go east or west. So when they say drop West, they mean choose the path going west.

You're going to hear a lot of casting. If you don't see an effect hitting you, they probably aren't casting at you. If you keep sneak up at all times you're going to be fine.

You could add them, they are listed with every guide for the quest.
All this quest takes is the ability to read a map, stay calm, keep sneak up and run to a few points on the map until you find the ??? you're looking for. It's not difficult, only time consuming but if you don't stay calm you're going to end up dead.
