Question Quest Help Please! [An Explorer's Footsteps]

I'm trying to this quest : An Explorer's Footsteps and I'm completely stuck! There's no one to help me ingame right now either!

I'm trying to do this quest so I can get the map of Crawler's Nest, but I'm stuck on trying to find the monument for La Theine!

Well I can see where it is ingame. It's stuck down a chasm at J-7, (the message gave me "target is out of range" when I tried to reach it with my game controller) but the problem is.... I just DON'T have a clue on how to get to the damn thing!

A few people have said different things in that link on alla, (I believe you have to go through Ordelle's too, but I don't know where though) and I've tried a couple of suggestions on there too, but I'm just getting absolutely nowhere.... FAST! (and died in the process a couple times too!)

Is there anyone here who has done this quest before, and can tell me the absolute correct route to take, on trying to get to that monument please?!

Re: Quest Help Please! [An Explorer's Footsteps]

Why is it so hard to check the FF wiki before posting these kinds of questions?

-> http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/An_Explorer%27s_Footsteps

About halfway down the page:
Quote:
Go down the gorge at H-7 and head to the eastern tip of the gorge. Go through the cave tunnels, through the next gorge, and through another cave tunnel. Finally head to the end of the next gorge to find the monument at J-7.

Okay, that worked fine. Thanks for that.
I feel a bit silly now. I'm sorry.

I started out taking a wrong turning quite near H-7, and didn't think to go in the oppisite direction, following the tunnels. (which coincidently, doesn't really go through any of the Ordelle's zone at all)

I shall use that guide you linked me to, and hopefully it should help me with the rest of the quest too.

Re: Quest Help Please! [An Explorer's Footsteps]

Don't feel too bad I guess. That quest is a little tricky in some places. Also, for the last two (Sauromugue Champaign and Batallia Downs) you will need a few people to help. The Sauromugue one requires going through banishing gate 1 and 3 in Garlaige and the Batallia one requires going through the Eldieme Necropolis and fighting a level 50ish NM.

But if you are just after the CN map, you don't need to do the last two.

Yeah.... I read that you didn't have to do the last 2 to get the map, but it certainly sounds like quite a challenge though, probably why you are rewarded quite a sum of gil for it too.

As I have said in previous posts..... it's not very easy for me to get group help in various quests and such, (infact come to think of it, I may have a bit of a difficult time finding a group for my next Sandy mission too, the one where you have to fight an NM in Delfutt's Tower. But I don't know really. Guess I'll just have to see) and so it'll probably be best if I just miss off the last 2.
But hey.... the only important thing I'm in need of here is the map, and to me..... that counts for more than just getting extra gil at the end of the quest.

Moving on a bit.....
I don't understand why you have to fight an NM, just to get through a certain zone. I know it's not something I'll have to worry about anyway, but I'm just rather puzzled about it. It seems quite an extreme thing to go through, just for this particular quest. I don't understand it really.

You don't have to fight an NM to get through Eldieme, I'm fairly certain. But you do need someone to hit the switches in there so you can get through to the right drop point.

You don't need Eldieme/Batallia's tablet to complete the quest anyway. It's just worth some gil - but yes, you definitely need a partner who knows their way around Eldieme... and you should really be higher than WHM36 before attempting it or the undead will eat you and spit you out faster than you can say "Your effect of Sneak is about to fade."

Pheweee! I KNEW you didn't have to fight an NM, just to get through this particular part of the quest!
It sounded quite an extreme thing to have to go through just for that.

Thanks for the heads up. (not that I will be going through there right now at my level anyway)

I've checked out the level range of the mobs in there, (and come to think of it, I now remember having to go through part of there on my way through Batallia when I did the quest for the scroll of Mea just recently. I remember getting my ass kicked too, by one of the dark stalker types in there, but luckily, I still got the job done at least) and they are about level 50+ or there abouts.

You could probably just get through there at level 50, with at least some EP or DCs along the way, but with absolutely no problem for level 55+ I'd day.

No, you don't. But when you get to the island where the stone monument is, Ahtu (treant) will be waiting for you there, unless someone else killed it already. On the plus side, his drop is for a San d'Oria quest that awards you 10k, so it's not so terrible going in that direction.

...buut a WHM36 isn't going to be able to kill him.

...that and I've been to that spot about seven or eight times over the years and have never seen Ahtu alive, let alone killed him. It remains one of my unfinished quests.

Re: Quest Help Please! [An Explorer's Footsteps]

That's true, she won't, but if she brings along a friend to help her open the gates then she might as well bring that person along to kill the NM.

I got the stone monument, Ahtu, and that San d'Oria mission all done at the same time while I was out there.

Re: Quest Help Please! [An Explorer's Footsteps]

I just finished this quest with a friend of mine, if you have plenty of OP warps and teles it's pretty easy really. Some people say it's not worth it, but I think it definately was, even if you do remember all the camp places having the map makes it so much easier, especially when you're hunting for coffers and chests. And just incase you haven't done this one yet, to get to the monument in N Gusta you have to go through Dangruf Wadi.

The quest is totally worth it. Of all the maps in the game, Crawlers' Nest is the most useful (Boyahda Tree, Garlaige Citadel, Castle Ozstroja and Castle Zvahl being good runners up). Oh, and perhaps the Grand Palace of Hu'Xzoi, but the OP isn't anywhere close to getting access to that zone...

Don't forget Caedarva Mire, although not useful until later levels, I can't tell you the number of times someone in my party has gotten lost in that zone and I've helped them navigate.
