question on the rse quest

I am able to activate the rse quest but am wondering if lvl 42 would be able to solo the mobs for the key to the chests. The guide says the mob lvl is around lvl 40 but am not sure if that means someone lvl 40 and up would be able to solo them(it seems like the Alka guide doesn't give any recommended lvl to be able to solo except for the NM's--which they recommend being at least 10 lvls higher than the mob lvl)

I just did a check on the mobs for you that drop the Chest key. You should be able to kill them solo at around level 40, given you don't get a link, and you are cautious about the type of mob you try to kill. Plus, it depends on your Job which I'm guessing is 40ish RDM... right?

Example: At 40, you probably don't want to try to get your chest key in Ordelles caves from the Stroper or Stroper Chymes, as Stropers have high dmg and status effect moves, and Stroper Chymes have higher resistance to melee attacks.

You also have to know what you're getting into with the zone itself.

Gusgen mines: Dip low in health when fighting a chest key mob... you're dead. (HP Aggro all over the place)

Maze of Shikrami: Go too low and you'll see Wights ready to aggro you. Gobs are your best bet.

Ordelle's Cave: Stroper Chyme/Stroper aggro can be deadly for your level. Gobs are your best bet.

I am a BLU/rdm so I should be ok-like you said ill have to be careful with the links and low HP(I have regen so I should be somewhat ok). I would actually like to farm some mobs in these zones but wasn't sure if I had to follow the same guidlines for mob lvl as with the NM's(be at least 10 lvl's higher to solo).

I soloed my first two RSE pieces at WHM38. I did it in Gusgen. I just went through the middle door. There are a few skellies in there that I was able to handle. They're spaced far enough apart so you can pull them back one at a time to kill. Just don't pull back to the door, the Bogy (or Banshee? I forget) will aggro through the door. A BLU/RDM at 42 should have no trouble.

The other two pieces I didn't bother with until I was much higher BLM.

In the Gusgen Mines right behind the first door (on the left) are some of those hounds, they are fairly simple and drop the key. I had no trouble soloing them for 2/4 of my RSE, and when I went to Ordelle's Caves for my other RSE some RMTs let me lot a key they had gotten, and I think I fought Gobs for the last one.
