SMN Quest Confusion. Please Help!

I'm not sure if I have a map or not, for Beucedine and Xarabard. Can someone please tell me where I get one from?

I'd say Altepa is the best bet to acquire Fire for the quest, yes. Just hang out in Rabao and step outside when the fire element icon appears. It's still not super-common, but it happens much more frequently than any other zone in the game. If getting to Rabao is a problem, travel through Korroloka Tunnel and just hang out at the tunnel entrance and zone into Korroloka and back when you see the fire icon appear.

Violet (ice) is very easy if you can access Xarcabard. Take a step into Uleguerand Range - it's almost always perpetually ice weather there. Failing that, Xarcabard itself is often under ice weather effect, as well as Beaucedine Glacier. Watch yourself in those zones if you're low level - there are aggressives and magic-aggressives everywhere.


Icemage

You get acccess to Korroloka Tunnel by going in through Bastok Mines. Is that correct?

I'm not sure where Rabao is. I've never been there in the game yet.

The Chateau is below the castle in Sandy...

Buy the Kuzotz region map from: Rabao K-7 Ashu Bolkhomo

The thing with Altepa is .. you have to actually travel through the desert before you can get a map for it. It's a pain, but just wait until you have to get your maps from coffers.

Chateau d'Oraguille is the castle in Northern San d'Oria. You need to be rank 3 to get in, I think.

Take a look at the maps at www.ffxi-atlas.com and print them out or try to plot your course in your head there.

I've just read the quest for "The Rescue" Click Here and it says that I have to kill "De'Vyu Headhunter."
This creature sounds like a high lvl for someone like me at LvL 31.
I don't think I will be able to do this quest unfortunately.

The other one you mentioned at Chateau d'Oraguille.
Is that a quest too, or can I just buy it from the NPC you mentioned?
If it is another quest, then I won't be able to do it if I have to kill anything over my LvL.

I don't think you have to be rank 3, but I believe you do have to be on the mission that gives you rank 3.

Find someone 55+ to kill headhunter for you. Its not too bad, justmight have to clear out a few possible links first. For the one in the Chateau, I think you can just buy some cheap item. Check ffxi.somepage.com for the map quest. It'll tell you what you need.

Headhunter is very easy to defeat for anyone level 60 or so, regardless of what job they are.

At level 30, though, you're probably just better off using Sneak + Invisible and having someone guide you through Ranguemont Pass and Korroloka Tunnel respectively.

Last week, (I think it was round about Thursday or Friday) someone from my my LS very kindly guided me to Beaucedine and Xarcabard from East Ronfaure, and through Ranguemint Pass to get the indigo ice weather effect I needed. That was after I asked politely of course.
So the only one I have left to do now, is the red heat weather effect, then I will get the ability to become SMN. YAYYYY!!!
Well after I find this circle of stones at La Thiene to trade in Carby's Ruby.

Anyway, onto the matter of the heat weather effect. I realise it can be quite awkwarsd to get, being at Altepa Dessert.

I'm just wondering.... is the heat weather effect as common at Altepa as the indigo ice one is at Beaucedine and Xarcabard? And which is the easiest route to get there?
Is it either through Bastok Mines or North Gustaberg?

No, it's not as common as ice weather. You'll probably want to do as Icemage suggested and hang out in Rabao until you see the fire icon and then step outside. You can catch moat carp there if you need something to kill time.

when I was getting my fire element I just levelled a low level job in Vulkurm until it showed, zone out - zone in, done deal. If you're 31 you could just PL someone while waiting.

Okay, I had a couple of players escort me to Altepa and through to Rabao to get a map yesteday so everything is fine on that part.

I'm still having a big problem trying to get this red heat icon to show up though.
I was in Valkrum Dunes waiting for it there and someone in my LS said that they saw it in Yhutunga Jungle while I was in the Dunes. That was rather annoying because I had no means of getting there quickly before it would dissappear.

I'm just wondering.... does anyone know if there is any possible online weather teller for each of the areas in FFXl which would change periodically so I don't have to go into the game and wait around for hours in an area for a weather effect that is never going to arrive in a place where I am currently. This would give me the chance to go straight into the game and quickly get the weather effect I need. It might be of some help. Otherwise I'm never going to get it.

SE should make the red heat effect more common like all the others.
Then I would never have this problem.

I just think it's so ridiculous! What is the point of creating a quest that you can't even complete! *GRRRRR!!*

It's only in Altepa. You can only get cutscenes in non-town outdoor areas. It's just that the weather in Rabao tends to match the weather outside, so you can just hang out there until you see fire and then walk outside to get the cutscene.
