Orcish Scales From The Bat Hunt? But where?

Hi.

I've recently been following this mission for the Bat Hunt,
Click Here and there is something I am confused over about it.

It says that you need to collect Orcish Scales (and all 90 of them too! WOW! That's going to take me some months of scaling the King's Tomb for!! ) and Bat Fangs. But the only creatuers I have seen in there so far, are :
Bats, Goblins, Worms, and Skeletons.
I've seen absolutely NO sign of any Orcs so far.
I guess I just try and collcet the scales from the Orcs in Ronfaure then do I?

I'm doing this mission as I believe you need some Rank Points (aswell as Fame) to do the quest to get the BLM Scroll, Drain. I was hoping to just buy it from the AH, but when I looked at the price, I nearly fell off my chair in shock! 80-90k this scroll goes for on Fenrir.
Can you believe that!? I certainly can't! Why DOES one scroll have to be so expensive as this? :confused:

It took me a matter of months to earn that amount of gil, the time I have already spent with this game, and I certainly aint going to blow it all on just one scroll! Better to do the quests and missions for it instead I think.


Just out of interest, what is the price for this on other servers please? And is it as expensive too?

Ding Bats drop Orcish Scales, and you definately don't need 90. Just collect one and move on!

80-90k is definately expensive, but trust me; when you get into higher levels; things will be much, much more costy. Better start crafting or finding some good way to roll in gil, or FFXI server economies will drive you crazy.

Try some monopoly with NMs if you're feeling lucky; Leaping Boots from Leaping Lizzy (lv12 solo) sell for upto 700k on Ragnarok here, and Rabbit Charm from Jaggedy-Eared Jack (lv10 solo) sell for over 1 million!

This is a San d'Oria mission, not a quest, so I'm really not sure how much fame you will get for it, but since you are doing it, from what I remember, head to King Ranperes Tomb, and go through the first part until you get to the maze where the gravestone is. Around that area (not inside the caves, just in outdoor area) only at night, ding bats will spawn. Kill Ding bats and eventually one will drop the Orc scales.

The reason you need to do missions to get Drain, is the quest giver for the Drain spell is inside the Chateau in North San doria, and unless you are on mission 2-3 or higher, you are not allowed into the chateau. Of course, the quest giver wont offer you the quest until you have enough San doria fame as well, so you will need to do lots of quests.

The reason the scroll is expensive is because you can only do this quest once, and there are a lot of people too lazy to build fame and do the quest. This is one of the most useful scrolls in the game, so its in high demand, driving its price up.

The Orcish scale mails are for a sandoria mission, I believe to get rank 2. As has been said, they drop from bats at night, I found mine in an area with high brick walls after a section of caves. A 21 whm will have an easy time there.

As far as Drain, quest here theres a quest in the Castle in sandoria. You need to be in process for the rank 3 mission or higher, in order to enter the castle. It requires a fair amount of fame to receive the quest though.

Worth mentioning that this scroll isn't very necessary. Not worth buying if you're short on money. Stick to the elemental spells, blizzard, stone etc.
