Access to Toraimarai Canal
I know that you can get a key to access Toraimarai Canal through one of the Horutoto Ruins by completing the Windurst Mission Wirtten in the Stars. I skipped it way back when, and have mission 13 activated right now, with no intention of completing it anytime soon, so there goes that access route to the Canal ><

I need to go there for my AF boots. Through a bit of searching here and other places, someone mentioned that you can access the canal through Windurst Walls, at a door blocked by cardians. How do you get access to this entrance? Or, are there any other way to get the key for the ruins entrance while having a different mission activated? I know I can bring a person that has the key from that mission, but I was planning on bringing a set PT through, and I don't think any of them did that mission either ; ;

the quest you are talking about is:

A Door Called Water
From: Ohbiru-Dohbiru (Rhinostery)
Map Coordinate: (South J-8)
Pre-requisite: Complete all of the Rhinostery quests.
Reward: 4500 gil , allowed entrance to Toraimarai Canal from Windurst Walls
Summary:
Solution: At the start of the quest you will acquire a "License Paper". Go to Toraimarai Canal and acquire three "Star Eating Bug Shells" from Starmites (G-9) and trade them to Ohbiru-Dohbiru.

However, you can access Toraimarai through the horutoto ruins even if you have not done that mission. There are 2 ways to open the door:

1.) Give a rolanberry to the far left girl behind the counter in Heaven's Tower to acquire the Key.

2.) Take a White Mage, Black Mage, and a Red Mage. Have each stand on the appropriately colored circle to make the door open. (this is the much cooler way to open the door)

So, just giving the rolanberry will give me a key to open the door in the ruins? I'd love to go the RDM/WHM/BLM route, but they're rare enough to find to PT with, let along bring to the canal

I don't think you can do the rolanberry since you haven't done the mission (one person in my LS reported that he was unable to get the seal), but maybe if you have someone in your static party from another nation, they can? You only need one person in the party to be able to get in there, the rest can run through when they open the door. I'm not entirely sure how it works for other nations. Worst case, you can have someone run there as a lv.1 RDM... it's hard, but not impossible.

I also looked up the mob info on the Starmite. they're lv.65-67 Beetles.

just a note, once you accept this quest you can now enter Toraimarai Canal through the gate in wind walls. You do not need to finish the quest to get in.

How do I activate A Door Called Water? I've done all the Rhinostery quests (I think). I've gotten them all food, I picked up the luggage from Mhaura, and I retrieved the Giddeus water. and I have max windurst fame (rank 9, hero).

I don't understand why this quest isn't activating. > < I need to get into the canal whenever I need to as my BST needs to solo there for the next 4 levels.

If i recall correctly the order was...
Stocking up for the group > Hiding in the Dark > Magic Water > Cursed Ribbon > A Door Called Water

basically after you beat Lich C. Magnus to finish the ribbon quest it should be available.

the NA names for these quests (and their npcs) are as follows, and can be obtained in the Rhinostery (Wind Waters):

1) Food for thought - Kerutoto
2) Overnight Delievery - Kenapa-Keppa
3) Water way to go! - Ohbiru-Dohbiru
4) Blue Ribbon Blues - Kerutoto
5) Toraimarai Turmoil - Ohbiru-Dohbiru

You only have to accept the last quest in order to obtain the official Rhinostery Certificate which allows you access to the canal.

Just a clarification note on Blue Ribbon Blues, this quest doesn't actually start with Kerutoto. To kick it off when you're ready, go talk to the old woman in the item shop in Windurst Woods, (It's across from the Bonecrafter's guild). She'll give you the ribbon, you'll end up selling it to Kerutoto, and the quest will continue from there.

The purple ribbon you need to trigger Lich C Magnus's spawn isn't that bad of resist gear, either. Makes a nice hat up until you get the levels needed to finish the quest.
