Skill up parties????

Forgive me if this seems like a stupid question but I'm not sure how these work. I usually skill up the weapons for certain jobs while I'm lvling them, but I have come to a point where I am unable to skill up my club and staff skills using my whm while exping. I know that Club and Staff are up there on the list for Pld but I don't know how this kind of party works any help would be appreciated.

Re: Skill up parties????

Go, get weapon, kill.

The weapon should be at least able to hit the mob you're fitting accurately.

Re: Skill up parties????

In addition, the difference in levels between you and the mob should be less than in an EXP party, otherwise your accuracy is gonna suck to the third power. Although, that requirement isn't too hard to meet.

Re: Skill up parties????

be careful joining as a whm for skillup pts: especially if you're there to skill a weapon and not to skill magic.

alot of people will attend skillup in the *worst* possible equipment and won't generally try to mitigate any damage.. but will still expect you to heal them full time. especially as you get up into the 200+skill range this can lead to you do alot of resting for mp and not alot of skilling.

so if you join a skillup for skilling weapons, make sure that you make it clear before the pt starts that you're looking to skill a weapon too and that, while it's not like you're *not* going to use Cures, if it gets to the point where you're doing nothing but curing and not getting to skillup too, then you're leaving. (this usually does the trick)

Re: Skill up parties????

For whm I didn't bother trying to skill up by club until I was 75, it's not like there are many situations where you need to melee as whm. Once at 75 I was able to solo up to around 200, as whm/nin then I did some duoing with friends and one skill-up party in the Boyahda Tree to get me up 225 or so.
After that, Aht Urghan came out and I got the rest of skill-ups from besieged. So really, unless you're desperate to keep your skills up to date level by level I don't think you need worry too much about them.

Funny, I have never been able to get a skillup in Besieged.

Re: Skill up parties????

In a good skill up party/alliance, everyone who comes along will take responsibility for their own healing. Usually, this means DD jobs sub WHM or RDM. Big problems arise if a majority of the DDs don't take responsibility to share in the task of healing, and that puts all the burden of healing onto the 1 or 2 mages who happen to come along. If you happen to go on a skill up as a mage, I suggest being very assertive about subjob selection before leaving town.

If you have enough people in the alliance, and the fights are relatively safe, you should make sure and equip a low delay, low damage weapon, preferably one with a +acc bonus. The longer the mobs lives, the better off you'll be. I went to do skill ups in Boyahdo Tree as a level 68 WAR, surrounded by level 75s. I didn't bother bringing a weaker GAxe with me, and instead just used my Berserkers Axe. The end result was that I pulled hate quite a few times, and go one shotted by a Goobbue. If you don't intend to tank, don't bring the highest damage weapon.

Besieged skill ups is very iffy. It wasn't until I was level 72 with 235-ish GAxe skill that I started to get reasonable amount of skill ups at Besieged. Even with a ton of +acc gear and Sushi, I had a tough time hitting mobs (and still do even now at times). If I'm not completely whiffing against one mob type, I'm hitting for 0s against another.

For safe skill ups in the 200+ range, I strongly suggest trying out the Excavation Duty assault. The only thing it will cost you is an assault tag, which won't hurt you unless you constantly do assaults. Just grab two friends who don't really care about finishing that particular assault, and go to town on Brittle Rocks. I got skill ups from them recently at 238 GAxe skill.

Re: Skill up parties????

i'm pretty sure SE removed the ability to get melee skillups in besieged, didn't they? I'm probably thinking of ballista or dynamis...

I know I used besiege to skillup my BLM's elemental and enfeeble.

If they removed weapon skill ups from Besieged, it would have had to be within the last week. I did a Besieged a little over a week ago, and got some GAxe skill ups.

Re: Skill up parties????

Why the hell would they remove the ability to skill up there, anyway? I personally think that anything which gets players to participate in Besieged (or any event that pops up like that) would be great, even if they're only there for the skill ups. Personally that's not why I go, but it's an added bonus on the rare occasion that I connect my sword to the mob.

That would suck, I'd love to get skillups off of charmed players. That would be a lot more fun then killing crabs for hours on end.

Odd, besieged has been pretty good to me on that score, I get good enhancing skill-ups from hasting and protecting the NPCs, divine from flashing the mobs etc. Most of my weapon skill-ups tend to come from meleeing the easier mobs, perhaps the tougher ones are too high to be able to skill-up on effectively.

The last besieged I attended one idiot was shouting Medusa (Blah-Blah) <Kill This one first!> for about 2 hours.

At the end he was complaining how he didn't get a single swaord skillup off of her.

Re: Skill up parties????

I've gotten good skillups in Besieged at 75 with high skill eating sushi wearing full accuracy gear. Other than that, it's rather difficult. For a skill-up party you need to fit the following criteria:

1. Maximize accuracy.
2. Ensure that at least 90-95% of your hits do at least 1 damage.
3. Find the fastest weapon you possibly can that does at least 1 damage.

For sword, that weapon is the rather expensive Aramis' Rapier. For dagger, it is Hornetneedle and/or Beestinger.

For Club, you want Perdu wand and another fast wand that does enough damage to hit for at least 1 damage per hit while you're eating sushi. Clubs are what you'll use normally, but they're not nearly as nice as a good wand for speed.
