ChainToy!
http://www.savefile.com/projects.php?pid=721416

Hellos all,

I present to you ChainToy. It's mostly untested at this point (and it requires the ever-so-dialup-friendly .NET framework 2.0), and the new jobs have thrown a monkey wrench into the EX/SP jobs for weaponskills, but it is working.

Basically, it's a skillchain chart. You choose what weapons your party is using to display a list of weaponskills. Clicking on a weaponskill will add it to the end of the current chain. Once a chain has at least one weaponskill in it, all the other skills will show which chain they'll make if added to the end.

It's not really a skillchain calculator, as it does nothing you wouldn't be able to do with a good skillchain chart. But it's not just a plain skillchain chart either.

I'm not very good at explaining, so I made an example use of it. (ChainToy Sample)

A group from our linkshell is doing the Garlaige Citadel quests that require Garlaige keys. To liven things up we're planning a four-person skillchain. Between the four of us, we have two staves, a Greatkatana, and a sword. Our SAM, showing off as usual, is going to both open and close it (Fusion). And I want to use Starburst, because the animation's cool. So I select the three weapons we'll be using. (ChainToySample01)

We're only level 50, so most of those weaponskills aren't yet available. Right-clicking on the ones above our level removes them from view. (ChainToySample02)

ChainToySample03 is an alternate view that shows what chains each weaponskill can start.

I know that our PLD is going to be using Red Lotus Blade (Liquefaction) to start the level 2 skillchain. And our BLM (the other staff-holder) only has up to Rock Crusher. Impaction goes to Liquefaction, and Reverberation (from Starburst) can go to Impaction. So I have my work cut out for me. Knowing all this, I pick out Tachi:Goten. But, what's this? Starburst will chain off that to Compression, not Reverberation, since Compression is higher priority. (ChainToySample04)

And sure enough, if I add Starburst, neither Heavy Swing nor Rock Crusher will chain. (ChainToySample05)

The SAM suggests Tachi:Jinpu instead. Starburst chains to Reverberation off this. (ChainToySample06)

And so, the rest of the chain falls into place. (ChainToySample07)

Now, obviously, I as the White Mage would not normally be doing the skillchain planning (and for good reason, too >.>). But whatever. It's just an example.

So, yeah. The weaponskills are all stored in a tab-delimited text file. If you find any errors (and there will probably be some, there was lots of conflicting stuff and I did that segment of typing at 4 AM... ;p) feel free to correct them (if you like) and let me know about it. And if someone could tell me what EX and/or SP skills, if any, BLU/COR/PUP get I would be very thankful.

Absurdly long post over. If you read this far, you deserve a cookie. Hope someone finds this useful, or at least entertaining.

{Take care.} {See you again!}
