Now I have pulled in every area up to this point and have done very well, maintaining the exp chain, getting out of some tricky situations and rarely getting aggro to form a link. However, since I have been pulling in Garliage by the entrance (the steps) mainly siege bats, somehow I will end up with a link of 4 siege bats hot on my tail that seemingly appear out of nowhere. This is not always the case and at times I am highly successful with my pulls, but lately I keep getting links. I really don't see how. I keep an eye out for pops, and when I go the route I always claim just one that's by itself, and I retrace my steps back, usually with not mobs in site, yet somehow they seem to pop up and instantly add to my pull. I worry about it so much especially since last night I joined a pt and they asked me to pull, I voiced my concerns and they had me pull anyways, so I did. In the first pull, link of 4 bats, no one died, I zoned them all of course but the JPs in the group quickly droped and from that the party swiftly disbanded and the members scattered leaving me and the leader speechless as to what had just happened. I believe that it wasn't fully my doing, especially since it was only one pull and was very late, but I worry that it might have played a part, and I am here to ask: What are some tips you all have since it looks like I shall be pulling from here on out? And some people said this was fairly the norm in Garliage, is this the case for you all?
I really desire to be better at this. However you'll want to watch if their Citadel bats. Those are nasty and because of that you should avoid pulling close to the entrances of the rooms.
I'd also like to congratulate you on being the type of player we all wish to party with. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 05-28-2006, 10:59 PM | #3 (permalink) | | J...atatouille Super Moderator Join Date: Dec 2002 Posts: 8,338 Style: Light - Version 5 My Mood: Thanks: 5 Thanked 136x in 106 Posts Gil: 22,719 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 22,719 Donate | Re: Problems Pulling Successfully when pulling in GL, make sure your target is not flying pass any doors. What might feel safe to you and may be with other mobs wont be for bats.
Also, you really need to check around corners for possible links, as well as inside the rooms. A bat you might not see in a room that is too close to the doorway might explain the "sudden apperance" of links. To any BLMs complaining about TP Burn parties; What goes around, comes around. Now for some advice... pops have a timer, after a while you will almost predict when a bat is going to pop after youve camped there for a bit, if you feel like the bats closer to camp are about to pop (you can tell if you manage to time their respawns), your best bet is to avoid pulling something thats far away, chances are youre gonna find an extra bat on your way to the camp, and then the "fun" begins.
In any case, your party shouldnt panic when you link, if you grab links tell them to voke the red one and you keep running to zone the rest, it really shouldnt be too much of a big deal, not since the mobs now depop upon zoning.
Do not allow them to cure you when you have links or they will grab hate and THEN its a problem, if you die, you die, just keep a stiff upper lip. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 05-29-2006, 01:33 AM | #6 (permalink) | | Raison d'etre Join Date: Mar 2003 Posts: 485 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 70 Thanked 23x in 17 Posts Gil: 5,932 Bank: 2,687 Total Gil: 8,619 Donate | Re: Problems Pulling Successfully Yeah, that zone thing, we've been doing that since yhoater (sp?), its a life saver, some people still don't know about it though. Just like how seemingly a lot of people can't work the group dynamic for SATA. (Its not hard, one person in front, one person in back, hate shifts between the two, thief moves behind the one at the moment) Double Post Edited:
Also, thank you, I'll try next time I'm there if I get forced into a pulling situation and stop worrying so much about exp chains, watch the pop times, and avoid gaps in floors and open doors.
Is there any other pulling areas that I should prepare myself for in the future? Twilightrose- THF/49 WAR/24 WHM/53 BLM/32 RNG/15 BST/25 NIN/27 Last edited by DieselBoy09 : 05-29-2006 at 01:33 AM. Grab a beetle if you are in doubt, and give bats a wider range of link aggro since they link by sound and not sight Originally Posted by SevIfrit | | we asked for more wyvern control the give us emotes.... /em slams head off desk... | | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 05-29-2006, 01:37 AM | #8 (permalink) | | Raison d'etre Join Date: Mar 2003 Posts: 485 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 70 Thanked 23x in 17 Posts Gil: 5,932 Bank: 2,687 Total Gil: 8,619 Donate | Re: Problems Pulling Successfully They link by sound? Just be sure you are not near any doors, because once you do, you pull at least 2 usually. I had this happen to me too because i didnt think there be any bats in the doors...of course now i wait for it to move away from the doors or go for better pickings. The way it works for linking monsters is that they detect their own friends, not you. So for sound detecting enemies, no matter if you're sneak, if 2 of them get close enough they'll link.
Same as sight detecting enemies. As long as the one you pull isn't in the line of sight if the other ones, they won't link. There are painters who transform the sun into a yellow spot,

Give rdm a Sneak spell for enemies, that'd be interesting, sneak a mob so it wont link...
Also usefull for lazy people.

Its not so much a pullers fault as it is the zone itself. You'll experience the same pain in Crawler's Nest, though much less so.
East Altepa offers better EXP and practically no chance of links. Garalidge Citadel is a bottlenecked zone meaning no matter how hard you try, you'll get links because space is so constricted. If you can, urge your PTs to EXP near the West Altepa zone in East Altepa Desert, its just plain better. Last edited by Omgwtfbbqkitten : 05-29-2006 at 06:05 AM. If you absolutely have to, go real close to the Seige Bat and pull it so it comes straight for you.
Yeah, bats can't fly over holes. Go figure. But then, sleeping bats fly, so....
Pulling over holes in GC = bat links practically guaranteed. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | Posting Rules | You may not post new threads You may not post replies You may not post attachments You may not edit your posts HTML code is Off | | | All times are GMT -8.
