Re: The macro of POWAR!
Jeez, when I read that macro I couldn't stop laughing. It was so pointlessly long and hilarious. But please, God, don't use that in a party. lol

"Oh, you ca'n't help that," said the Cat: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're Mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice.
"You must be", said the Cat, "or you wouldn't have come here."

Re: The macro of POWAR!
I saw this years ago at GameFAQs. IIRC GPrime made it, Chilicheese was the first to use and screenshot it. The purpose is the entertain yourself and some friends while leveling low level jobs.

Also a surefire way to get blacklisted by strangers. /echo was one of the best ideas in FFXI.

Re: The macro of POWAR!
Who would blacklist someone for this? O_o

Edit: I have blacklisted my own guild leader for the two lines of flavor text he included in every spell macro many times but this macro is not intended for repeated use...

Re: The macro of POWAR!
While I agree that it shouldn't be used in a serious party, maybe using it just once at the end of a battle when the pt is disbanding to give everyone a good laugh to go home on seems fun.

I'm of the opinion that the parties that have members that cut up and have fun *while* grinding for hours are the best.

But something like that... yeah, best only for one final hurrah @ Disband. I laughed my ass off reading it though.

Re: The macro of POWAR!
Personally, I don't know why people get so worked up over a few lines of text in macros. (I'm not talking about this massive one, by the way.) Some of the macros I've come across are rather funny.

I used to have /p in all of my macros, until I got so sick of people complaining about them that I took it out. Now the only macros (for RDM) that say anything are Refresh, Dispel, and Convert. But I honestly don't understand what the big deal is, and why you're classified as a noob if you have text in your macros. For some people who like a little bit of RP (like me), adding some words to my macros is a way of satisfying that a little bit. Is it really that annoying?

And also please don't tell me about the chat log scrolling by so quickly you might miss a skillchain or something, you and I both know you can optimize your filters so you see exactly what you want to see, whether it be by filtering out unwanted information or by changing font colors.

Seriously, what's the big deal?

Re: The macro of POWAR!
I put /p lines in my cures to avoid double curing and keep people up to date on my mp, and in my Sleep to make sure people disengage the mob I'm sleeping. Refresh and Dispel are important, but nobody needs to track them except me. They'll know it's cast when they see the animation.

I hate it when people put RP lines in very commonly used macros. My cure /p line looks like "{Cure}2=><lastst> | MP: <mp>" but I had a whm once who's cure macro was something like "Stop whining <t> its only a scratch! {Cure}!" and he mashed the hell out of that macro multiple times per cast so our chat log looked like

(Annoyingwhm) Stop whining <t> its only a scratch! {Cure}!
(Annoyingwhm) Stop whining <t> its only a scratch! {Cure}!
(Annoyingwhm) Stop whining <t> its only a scratch! {Cure}!
(Annoyingwhm) Stop whining <t> its only a scratch! {Cure}!
(Annoyingwhm) Stop whining <t> its only a scratch! {Cure}!
(Annoyingwhm) Stop whining <t> its only a scratch! {Cure}!
(Annoyingwhm) Stop whining <t> its only a scratch! {Cure}!

flying by at retarded speed. And there's only one way to filter party chat coming from just one person. /blist.

Does that work? Can't remember the last time everyone actually disengaged the link before. Ofcourse I've been leveling low level subs lately, so that could explain it.

The general problem with /p with your macros is that more often than not its just for show and is generally useless. In the middle of a battle its nice to quickly differentiated based on the blue text so that you know something important is coming up or needs to be done. Like "/p Disengage and zone now!" I still have a few /p in ws macros just saying that im using them. They're quickly being phased out though. Just get more and mure unnecessary as the skill or your parties improve and everyone is more aware of what's going on. As for the "funny" ones, yes they're funny the first time or two you see them, but they quickly get old an annoying. Another thing the Bradygames guide needs to change about partying. Don't put those things in there, it confuses people. (That and WAR/WHM being a viable job combo)

Re: The macro of POWAR!
*grins* that's a sweet macro. I'm so going to use that every time I boost as a monk! /sarcasm off

I do have 2 macros for a lot of things. One silly one, and then one silent, or with as little text as possible in it. Like my convert macros.

Silly:

/p CRAP VOKEVOKEVOKEFORTHELOVEOFGODVOKE!
/(you can insert standard equip stave and mp gear and convert lines here
/p converted

Standard:
/p Convert
/insert regular lines here

I use the first one only ONCE per party. Usually on my first convert, and NEVER mid battle. I usually get a chuckle or 5.

The only macro that I have that has /say is my warp macro, but it will never change.
/em clicks his heels together 3 times
/say there's no place like 127.0.0.1
/ma "Warp" <me>

Better far to live and die, under the great black flag I fly....

Re: The macro of POWAR!
I don't see the problem with macros if they're tasteful, not spammed in any situation, or are informative. Last night, in the Dunes, there was a warrior who's Provoke macro was:

/em kik <t> balls.
/wait 1
/ja Provoke <t>

That was really annoying, and there was another person who had "everybody rest" in his avatar dismiss macro, which didn't get on my nerves so much but it was just odd.

When I played Summoner I purposely made a few of my macros overly exaggerated for fun. I had "<pet> vs <t>! Round one -- FIGHT!" which I used a lot, and "Extremely annoying macros, or the best candy bar in the world!? Take five, <pet>!" for when releasing. I had to give up my old school Street Fighter "Rice Barrel" and "Karma Wookie" Provoke macros because nobody knew what the hell I was talking about. Now all I use is "You're playing so hard to get, <t>!" for Provoke, "Dak Attack! Penta Thrust <t>!" for weapon skills with Dak, and "Make your peace with God, <t>." for weapon skills for any other character. They would probably get annoying if you saw them often, but you don't see them often enough.

My Paladin's Provoke macro is silent for sanity's sake.

Re: The macro of POWAR!
All of my macros save my TP/MP/HP/whatever macros are silent. It's just how I got used to playing. If someone desperately needs to know what WS I'm using, I'll put in a /p just for them, but it's always just "/p [Weapon Skill] <tp>" and that's it.

Meanwhile, some folks have a /p macro for everything. I was in Ifrit's Cauldron yesterday with a WHM who had a /p for using invis and sneak, a /p for when they were ready to use again, and a /p for when they were wearing. It was exciting.
