FFXI XP Chains

On other forums, I am seeing people do XP Chains by themselves yet I have never done one. I am fairly new to the game so I am just curious...how do you get XP Chains by yourself?? I am killing the same enemy as fast as I can, but I am not getting chains. There has to be something I am missing.

Thanks for your help!

I forgot to mention...I understand the whole chaining process because I have a level 30 RDM and chaining is huge for parties, but how do you XP chain by yourself?

you have to fight even match or tougher

well kind of. you have to kill even match or tougher in succession and within a certain time period for you to get chains

you can get chains by killing a dc first and then an em, you have to be fast though. Its easy with goblins because they blow themselves up a lot.

There are different timers depending on the length of the chain, and also your level. You get more time as you level up, and less time for successive chains. Look here for a good explanation and timer charts:

To my knowledge this is and always has been false. It's got to be even match or higher to the highest-level party member (which, when solo, is obviously oneself).

Decent challenge definitely do not contribute to XP chains (ask any BST, they'll tell you.

I thought the chain was made based on your level even if there is a higher level player in your party. I almost certain that i've gotten a chain, but a player a level or two higher than me did not.

Or am I just seeing things?

So long as the mob is EM or better to you, you should get the chain bonus.

Oh, neat. I never knew that, thought the chains would be based off the highest level just like the XP. Huzzah for learning stuff!

there are certain mobs, though rare, that will, however, not break an XP chain even if they are below even.

Really? I would guess that NMs would do that, but what are some of the mobs that allow for unbroken chains?

couldn't tell ya off the top of my head.

some of the mobs (again, can't remember which ones) in ToA were reported to exhibit this type of behavior
