Post Compiled information on monster weapon type damage modifiers and info on all weapons

I have been wondering for a very long time (and searching ) for a comprehensible chart with every monster's weaknesses/strength versus weapon type (piercing, slashing, blunt), along with a list of what every weapon's type (some monk weapons for example are considered slashing)

This would help anyone trying to bring out the best of his class when fighting different monsters, get weapons accordingly to where they are going to exp, and obviously help party leaders as to which job with which weapon to lookout for when making their group.

I am currently working on finding information on all this, but the very few i have found yet are japanese sites that dont translate well enough to be comprehensible.

Also, if anyone has information about this please link whatever you can find, as i would want this to be made sticky to help everyone when they're making their party.

This post will be edited as many times as needed to have all the crucial information in it to make it easier for everyone to see.

Link away! (by the way i have been doing extented research and found no official thread having this particuliar information, but if i missed one, don't be afraid to link it here too.)

That took forever for me to figure out.

I made those pages for my own usage mostly, so it's not that really user-friendly.
But updated and added a disclaimer with hint of the mouseover info.

Re: Compiled information on monster weapon type damage modifiers and info on all weap

I saved a chart on my photobucket account in the off chance I lost the webpage I got it from... Which was good, since I managed to lose the website...

The only differences I noticed (I didn't go side by side and compare the two) was the addition of a "hand to hand" category on Alontier's page, as well as the notes about great axe "break" moves.

Which? I've heard rumors about vampiric claws being piercing, but I've never managed to get a set (despite how much I tried). If there are others, I'd like to know.
I won't link the picture I have unless people request it, since there's nothing on the image that isn't on that page.

I've never seen any sort of charts about what weapons are what types.

Re: Compiled information on monster weapon type damage modifiers and info on all weapons

I think Baghnakhs and the H2H weapons that actually look like claws are slashing, whereas knuckle and cesti types are blunt. That's what makes sense looking at the weapons, so I've always just assumed that.

Re: Compiled information on monster weapon type damage modifiers and info on all weapons

Rapiers, are considered as piercing damage though they are listed under sword skill.
Also seen that some axes are considered as blunt(?) damage...
I've been searching for a "weapon/dmg type" list but haven't found one so far,
only some notes etc mentioned briefly now and then.

Re: Compiled information on monster weapon type damage modifiers and info on all weapons

Well, when you think about it, it makes a lot of sense that there's variations to the kind of attack every weapon does. I have no doubts in my mind that even among swords, you'll have different kinds of attacks. Like slashing and piercing, for example.

Polearms can be slashing or piercing, depending on the type. There's also rumors that one or two polearms also do blunt type of damage (It was never officially confirmed) You can tell just by looking at the models in Model Viewer.

Daggers can be either slashing or piercing. Not sure of any other attack variants. (Check Hoplites and variants to see what I mean)

I have no idea if there's anything besides slashing for Great Sword and Scythes. But among scythes, there's two kinds. The short bladed (piercable) and the long, curved blade types (slashing) If you want to make a comparison, it's like looking at a Hoplites and a slightly curved, short bladed dagger. I won't add the newer BLM-wielded types, since I have no idea how those things function in the hands of a DRK (Most likely utter crap, but you never know)

Great Swords pretty much look the same, except there's four models: Braveheart, Demonic/Zwie, Brand and Balmung. I hardly doubt that there's any variation other than slashing, but the Brand I know adds a latent en- type of attack while the Balmung types seem to have greater damage potential. Maybe someone who's researched this extensively can lay out the "base" properties between the four models.

There's just way too much variations and "unspoken" properties of each weapon. If only SE can clear the air about the speculations, we can breath easier, but maybe there's a purpose to keep it all a mystery.

Re: Compiled information on monster weapon type damage modifiers and info on all weapons

Indeed, i think Vampiric claws are considered Piercing (or slashing, not sure) Because they dont get the same dmg penalty VS slimes (ie that lvl 40 BCNM with 3 ppl vs the slimes)

At any rate, i am working hard these days to get fenrir, but once that is done, i will work on trying to get all the weapon information i can get my hands on and make a chart or something with it. Always useful to have different dmg type weapons when you are fighting vs monsters that are weak/strong vs special type of weapons .

Bourdanasse and Heavy Lance are blunt lances. Upon WS, they do peirce type dmg for that WS moment.

Every other lance is Peirce.

Re: Compiled information on monster weapon type damage modifiers and info on all weap

WS's and weapon types per weapon are calculated seperately. For example, every 1h sword WS is considered slashing, even though some individual 1h swords do piercing damage. Bourdanouse WS dmg is piercing as all spears are, yet regular dmg is blunt.

All polearms to my knowledge are piercing, with the exception of ~2 that are blunt.

There are no slashing or blunt daggers to my knowledge. I myself own poth a P.Harpe and H.Harpe and both are piercing.

The vampiric claws are either piercing or slashing, I forget which, however general baghnaks and claws of all kinds are considered blunt. If you don't believe me, take your thf down to krt and compare dagger dmg to dmg on claws and baghnaks.

To my knowledge, all G.Swords and scythes are slashing.

Most 1h swords are slashing, however rapier types are considered piercing.

A good place to test weapon type with no chance for error, if you have any doubts, would be the weapon weakness floor of limbus. In this specific area, weapon floor is immune to magic, bones immune to piercing, crabs immune to slashing and slimes immune to blunt.

Edit: Most crawlers arent weak or strong to anything, the one exception is Processionaires. These specific crawlers are weak to slashing from all experiences I have had fighting them.
