Are you selling everything (so someone in charge of it) and split the money after or do you give the items if someone needs it (mainly thinking about phalanx).
I am asking this because I am not in a LS yet and I got invited to try the Giddeus BCNM40 while I was hanging around Windurst (which was my very 1st BCNM).
Basically the leader was telling me everything would get sold and cash shared but I wasn't very happy to know that phalanx would be sold while I still need it (and that could be the same for erase if our WHM was in need of it) and even more that a complete stranger is going to keep the stuff and take care of the cash alone (though half of the group was in the same LS, leader or the group was a member, but still I don't know their LS).
Maybe you have different methods for each BCNM aswell ?
And in a certain extend are you only joining full LS groups or do you agree to join pick up groups for those fights ?

In EverQuest, we called the system whereby you award looted items to the job that can use them "need before greed" (NBG)... I was never a big fan of the NGB system, at least not among strangers, but not because I'm greedy. I don't like it because the items that drop in a cetain area, event, ect. for each class are not necessarily of equal value, plus it means some people come out emptyhanded.
Any system that doesn't reward all participants equally is inherantly unfair. The only way to reward everyone equally is to sell everything and split the gil evenly, so that's the system I favor, even if it means one day I only get 30-40k (boo-freakin'-hoo!) from a BCNM event where Phalanx drops. I plan on trying to buy Phalanx before reaching level 40 anyway (not so sure that will happen, though).
My linkshell hasn't successfully completed a BCNM event yet, but the policy they've agreed upon for all the BCNM attempts they've done so far (they've only tried 3 or 4 times) is to sell everything and split equally.
What it comes down to though, is the person/linkshell who organizes the event is the one who gets to determine what loot scheme is used. If you don't like it, you don't have to participate. Just make sure you ask what the loot distribution policy is before the event so there are no unpleasant surprises.
If you don't trust the person who will be selling the items, if you have the gil, then perhaps you can offer to broker the items in question. Ask what the person plans on selling them for, and offer to buy them at a 16-17% (1/6) discount from that price, if the prices seem reasonable. That way everyone gets their cut immediately except you, and you are guaranteed to get your cut when the items sell. You'd have to initially drain your own gil reserves, deal with the AH listing fees, and wait for them to sell, risk the turbulance of the market, ect. but it's still a viable option if you just don't trust the person who's running the event. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 03-18-2004, 11:14 AM | #7 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: Oct 2003 Posts: 19 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 0 Thanked 0x in 0 Posts Gil: 22 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 22 Donate | Recently i got together with a few friends and this how we split $$.
Items are collected after every try and sold by 1, then we split cash: The 1 that uses the orb gets 20%, rest gets 16%, of the items dropped during that try.
So if i am lucky and we get an item worth 1mill in the run i used my orb, i get 200k when the item is sold, my friends get 160k for that run. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 03-19-2004, 11:30 PM | #8 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: Apr 2003 Posts: 190 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 0 Thanked 0x in 0 Posts Gil: 858 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 858 Donate | Orber keeps. It takes a while to collect 40 seals. So what if Erase or Phalanx don't drop for me? That's just the way life is. If i do get it, i'm lucky enough.
Orber Keeps Loot
BTW, my BC40 Giddeus is like 40something and 3. I've gotten erase around 3-4 times (i can't remember) and Phalanx once.
I've only orbed around 10 times. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 03-25-2004, 05:59 PM | #9 (permalink) | | Junior Member Join Date: May 2003 Location: A galaxy not too far behind you Posts: 173 Style: Light - Version 6 Thanks: 0 Thanked 0x in 0 Posts Gil: 388 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 388 Donate | ok n00b question but where do you go in jeuno to do these. and is there a place that tells you what you fight (or whatever) and what it drops for however many seals you use?

On the other hand, in a situation with strangers, I sure as the Nine wouldn't trust a stranger with tens or hundreds of thousands of gil worth of loot and expect them to give me my share later. Sure, many of the people are likely to be trustworthy, but a fair number are likely to keep the loot, or skim a nice fat percentage off the top in addition to their share.
In a situation with people I know, on the other hand, fairest thing seems to be to give each person whatever they need. Classes get their spells, equipment is rolled by anyone that can wear it...only things that wouldn't be a direct upgrade to someone would be sold for cash. It's just the fair way to do things, assuming everyone there knows each other and are friends.
It should be noted that in a situation with strangers, if the piece of loot someone is interested in is roughly equal in value to their share of the loot, they should just get that piece of loot in the first place; there's no reason to sell it if they want it, and it's worth the same amount that they'd get anyways.
I kind of like the 'orber keeps' idea, but I'm not real sure if it's completely fair to everyone involved.. I mean, if we make a mistake on your turn, there's no reason you should get nothing - especially if it was someone else's mistake. I'd add one more thing to the 'orber keeps' idea... Assuming all 6 people have an orb, if one try fails, each of the 5 successful people give up one item (I think one item drops for each person, right?) so that nobody goes home empty-handed. It can be the 'least valuable' item, but the important thing is that everyone gets something for their time and effort helping everyone else. Koyasha, Paladin, Red Mage, White Mage...

The person who uses the orb cant do it without the rest of the group and vis versa. | | ::Quote Selected:: | | 04-01-2004, 03:24 PM | #13 (permalink) | | Member Join Date: May 2003 Posts: 683 Style: Dark - Version 5 Thanks: 0 Thanked 0x in 0 Posts Gil: 1,361 Bank: 0 Total Gil: 1,361 Donate | I get all the items, I sell them, you get jack...
I don't trust anyone, so before we start, I tell them I'm getting all the items, I'm selling them, and splitting the money. They can look in the price history and see what it all went for. If they don't trust me to handle it, then they get out.
If I am invited to one, I'm usually more bendy, unless its my Orb that we're using first.
