Bcnm40
ok so i hit 40 with a few of my LS members, we decide to try a BCNM. We go to palborough, enter the BC, and die in under a minute to 15 stonega IIs. "whoa, that was too hard"
on to giddeus, because we received a tip that it was "easier." yeah sleepga worked well, for the first 10 seconds, then dvororoi(sp) casts Flood on our blm for 609 dmg, dead. and we get swarmed shortly after.

Could someone list some strategies for BCNM40, or just BCNMs in general? I've never faced such a challenge in FFXI before, and it is really frustrating when you feel like you have a chance, but just get destroyed in the outcome.

We had lvl 40 pt of rdm, whm, blm, drk, drg, pld

Alliance?

I've only heard stories of people fighting the BCNMs with alliances... Don't think I've ever heard of 6 or less taking them on.

Think BCNM's are not alliance-able.

I don't know much about BCNM fights, but i know that you really should bring a bard along with you.

Sleepga won't cut it. You need a bard with the less resistable Horde Lullaby/more defense than a BLM and a paladin with invincible to be able to do the mandragora fight. The mages should NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVVER EVER (etc.) get hate from the black mandragora, otherwise his flood WILL kill them.

The easiest thing to do is...

1.) Paladin runs in, uses Invincible. Gains hate from all of the mandragoras.

2.) BRD sings Horde Lullaby and uses Foe Lullaby to sleep any stragglers. A BLM can help with that job.

3.) Your group's SAM, MNK, or WAR activates their two hour, and EVERYBODY proceeds to wipe out the black mandragora while the bard keeps the white ones asleep. A MNK is *very* helpful at this part, as he can keep hate away from the mages with his two hour and he has the HP to take in a flood and some extra damage.

4.) Once the black mandragora is dead, proceed to take out the whites one-by-one.

For this fight, you will definatly need food/juices. Fish or anything that give defense is best for the BRD. Lullaby creates a ton of hate, so the ones that he fails to sleep are going to be attacking him a ton while both lullabies reset.

Tips:

- The bard's life is important above all. If the bard dies, the entire group dies. Your party's casters should regard the bard's health before the paladin's.

- Elemental Seal + Silence = lifesaver. It has a 50/50 chance of landing even with elemental seal, so don't count on it.

- You NEED a bard and a paladin to do this. Without a paladin, it will be near-impossible. Without the bard, it pretty much is impossible. The MNK is also a great added help.

The alternative would be to go in there with 6 BSTs, charm all six white ones, and wipe the floor with the black one. I'm not sure if they fixed that a while ago, though.

bard is needed, no getting around that one.
paladin is not essential to winning at all. We use whm, rdm, war, sam, drk, brd.
The mandra's melee output is light and having them all beat on your main tank (in my case warrior) while the bard puts them to sleep will not cause a great load of damage.

Biggest thing i can suggest is, dont panic.
It's easy, especially the fist few runs to lose control and make silly mistakes.
The black mandra is a pain, he has a ton of HP and flood can quickly turn the tide in the fight. Once he's dead it's just a case of working through the whites one by one.

good luck

I've tried this dozens of times to no avail, the closest time was my last time at giddeus, party was

WHM/PLD/BRD/WAR/BLM/DRK

We had lost 3 times already so I tried to plan it out myself, plan was Soul Voice >> Lullaby (the PT was mostly japanese and the bard mistook it as FOE lullaby instead of HORDE lullaby...) kept them asleep for like 5 minutes while i pulled the black one back to the start and we beat it, BLM died after failing a sleep-ga and bard died shortly afterwards, we beat the black and one of the whites and then they all come at me and kill me easily, and basically wipe the floor with us... even when the black one is beat they can still totally cream you :/

Buddha, did the PLD activate Invincible after the Soul Voiced Horde? Invincible usually beats out your hate on all of the white ones, so it's kinda odd that they all ran at you...

You just labeled the two major problems with having a BLM do the AoE sleep:

1.) BLM does NOT have the defense to handle his ga failing.
2.) BRD's Horde Lullaby is resisted much less than BLM's sleepga.

To those unexperienced at teamwork and BCNMs in general, these can be very hard. Once you get used to the high levels of teamwork and preplanning involved in BCNMs, these tend to get much easier.

You need to make sure EVERYBODY knows what they need to do beforehand, and make SURE of it that nobody has any misunderstandings.

Mandras are for pussies. go bunnies

Anyhow, you NEED a bard for these fights, for lullaby and ballad... also drinks for mages are a MUST. BC60 you can do without drinks, but 40 it's virtually impossible.

Some pointers:
- kill the main guy first
- 2h abilities may be useful to get you warmed up, but isn't necessary
- level USEFUL subs
- more than "just OK" equipment
- drinks for mages
- bard keep ballad and defense song up on party, keep hording the monsters.
- sleepga does NOT stack over lullaby ; ;
- everyone bunch together so the bard can sleep them all with horde and never miss any. Mary's horn is highly recommended for bard.
- If you can beat the boss version, you've more or less got it won.
- Cast bar spells... for any ranged area attack they use. it's a lifesaver. bunny's got claws and dust, bastonera saved our asses.
- Only fight mandras at night, at day they regenerate.
- VS. mandras drink poison potions so that you don't get put to sleep.
- Keep the bard alive. If the bard dies, game over.
- Keep the bard alive.
- Keep the bard alive.
- Keep the bard alive.
- Keep the bard alive.
- Keep the bard alive.
- Keep the bard alive.
- Keep the bard alive.
- Keep the bard alive.
- Keep the bard alive.
- Keep the bard alive... seriously. If you lose the tank, the fight is recoverable. If you lose a damage dealer... might timeout.. but might not have to all die. Lose the bard, you all die.
- Sing ballad and defense song before running in. Tank and Bard should both eat defense food.
- Try and try again. Don't just give it up after losing a few. Everyone loses their first time around, you just gotta learn from your mistakes. Eventually you'll have gotten it down and will be running through them like a breeze.
