"No Lotting Rule" a yes or no?

In every party I've been in, its been simple. No one lots, unless there is something that they want. It was never spoken, people just don't lot. When someone wants something, they lotted, and other people lotted/passed. If someone asked if they could have something, usually the party would give it to them (this isn't the case for very rare/high selling items).

Letting it automatically distribute is a bit easier, alot of people forget to check the lots, or can't remember (some people have illnesses that play this game, I met a WHM with ADD, screwed us up a bit, but was an alright player).

I personally think they need to put in a system where its automatic or pass, and automatically passes if you set it to, or have a full inventorty/can't accept that item.

Just my opinions though.

My opinion on the subject:

I will:

1) Lot if there is an item that I want. Beastmen seals, items of value, etc.
2) Lot for items I want, regardless of whether or not there is a no lot policy.
3) Lot for anything and everything the second that I see an item, ANY item, get eaten because someone has a full pack. If everyone then assures me packs are sorted (and are going to stay that way), I'll stop. If it happens twice, I lot until the conclusion of the party. Beastmen Seals poofing because some ass won't sort thier earth crystals is *not cool*.
4) Allow any item of under 15,000 gil value go to a player who needs it to USE. If we're killing wights, and tractor drops, I will let the BLM have it. If other people cast lots against the BLM who needs it, I will lot against them and give it to the BLM if I win. I consider 15,000 gil the limit for this policy unless the entire purpose of the party is to obtain the item for someone. Items over 15,000 gil should have thier proceeds split amongst the party, or be freely lotted on by all.

I will not:

1) Pass on items I do not want just so people who are lotting can get them faster. You will get your earth crystal eventually. Wait for it.
2) Pass on items of no value just so that they go to someone who might actually want it. If you want the beetle shells, lot on them. I'm not going to pass on them, I'm just going to drop the ones that go to me at random.

I prefer:

1) That people do not lot for items of little to no value. Please just let the earth crystals, flint stones and rock salt auto-lot. I don't bitch if one person lots (well, actually, I don't bitch if anyone lots), but I prefer if people just let this crap auto-lot. 25 lot messages is a lot of spam to generate over 100 gil of earth crystals.

I think the low level american players just haven't reached the point where anything is really worth money, and thus consider lotting a waste of time.

hey, i made a lot of dough with earth/wind before idiots spammed the markets and lowered their prices till even fire crystals were at or below 1000....

tips for a happy lotter:
set your message filters(if you don't know how to do that, i suggest you uninstall the game right now or just learn how from your INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS+GAME MANUAL)
lot on what you want or need, not just a piece of crap like bird feathers (unless you make low quality arrows)
lot while you auto-attack (saves so much boredom)
ask people to PASS on items they don't want or can't use/sell (like a subjob quest item with a guy that already has a subjob)

The no lotting rule is the most eccentric thing ever. If you think lotting is not worth doing then don't lot and don't complain when others do. If you really want the item then you would lot for it. If you want to wait it out and force everybody else to do the same then that's a clear sign of apathy.

The ones who lot care about the item are the ones lotting for it, and they deserve it more than the ones who are anti-lotters because it's clear that the lotters care more about the item than the anti-lotters. If the anti-lotters really cared then they would take that extra 5 seconds to lot and stop complaining about it.

If there is something I really want I will just ask if its ok if I lot on it, if not I'll just wait and see who get it.

The only place where I've really ever seen this no lotting "rule" and people actually having to say it, is in the dunes and to some extent Qufim.. elsewhere, when I join a pickup party.. I wait till after the kills and see if anyone lots... if no-one does, then I don't.. unless there is an item I really want.. I would ask first if I can lot on it... Otherwise, if people are lotting in the PT when I join them, I will do the same...

I've seen parties refuse to lot on skulls during the subjob quest, and lost skulls because of that...

Other day joined a party out in the dunes that was primarily NA but did have one japanese player. After a battle the japanese player lots on the drops. I lot too assuming that like most parties in the past, we'll all lot on the items this one time to ensure equal fairness in distribution and that he doesn't get all the items since he lotted and the NAers didn't. Next thing I know we both got kicked from the party -_-;;

If you don't want lotting in your party, say so, but to throw a fit like that is silly.

I was in beta too and miss lotting. What I hate is people who claim they were in beta and say no one lotted, which is a lie Lotting has so much logic to it yet so many fail to understand it beyond "It's spam". Glad to see a topic on this issue that doesn't end up with "Lotting is spam, there is no time for it in a party and it shows how greedy you are". What happened to the times where people would joke if someone lotted a 2 on something or discussing if a 999 lot is possible?

it goes like this, not everyone wants whats all the drops, some people need things more than others. also, if a person is full, the auto lot from the computer just throws away the item. wasting time is waiting for the dayam item to distribute, then going to someone who is full so no one gets the item.

I've given up trying to convince people to lot on rock salt, earth crystals and other low value junk. But if I see goblin gear or something else valuable, damn right I'm lotting on it. You want a shot at it? Lot. If you're too lazy to take *1 second* to lot you don't deserve the loot. And if your inventory is full and you can't lot - sort, or don't spoil the loot.

Eventually people will get over the no lotting craze... I laugh when I think about no lotting parties trying to do kazham quest, or worse, Genkai 1. :p I wonder how they even got their subjobs... throw away 5 skulls (or have them autolot to someone who already has SJ) before it goes to the person that can use it?
