I regularly use the translation feature and I've gotten to the point where they understand what I'm saying, but apparently I put the phrases together so well that they think I can actually SPEAK Japanese and I have to type 'English ' to get them to speak more simply. When I see numbers after the letters "LV" I usually understand what they're talking about and their various status macros are easy to get...and I'm usually the one who's collecting a PT, so I already know their Classes and lvls. Getting a party together is the only hard part, making a plan and actually fighting is easy. Everyone knows their job, so I don't have to tell them much and all the monster names are in English, so we can say early on what we're going to hunt. I just prefer the bilingual players who have a base understanding of English so I can learn a little Japanese on the way. I'm pretty sure I committed the kanji for 'Thanks' to memory (at least that's what he said it meant. ;x) I like speaking in English to offer them the same opportunity. I guess I should put a lil more effort into learning romanji, but for now when I get JP PT members, it goes pretty well.

I've never seen a kanji for it. My JP input menu says this might be it but i doubt it. cause arigatou is almost always in hirigana.. —L‚è“?@?|?@‚_‚肪‚Æ‚¤ but i dobut they are the same thing. |

Ive had my own partys, still under the newbie stage of making partys, but ive still managed to incorporate lots of players both english and japanese. Most of the time when Im ordering the party, since they cannot read my fast and slang typing when im giving out commands, I usually use the default macros such as point or poke. Because I know these lines come out in both english and japanese.. so they know what to do.. as for calling for healing by WHMs, this is easily done as most people have the common sense to heal someone when they are low on health. And most japanese have played long enough to learn that. As for direct speaking, the majority of the ones who I have met speak english very well, even though on their profiles they comment that they dont speak it.. lol Though speaking to them directly if worse comes to worse, I give simple commands and usually try and perform tasks which are an example.. eg; "do you have cure?" obviously I would cure someone, and they would see the magic name and get it immediatly. Also trying to communicate with the japanese in their language.. can the computer print out japanese characters to display on your screen as well? also if not, is the most common way to type the english verion in? aka arigatou.. etc etc etc

Okay, while this is all very interesting, is there a way of telling whether or not what they just wrote in english was created by the auto-translator, or by themselves? It'd give some indication of whether or not they could speak english or understand it, if I could tell if they were using the auto-translate feature. |

From what I've experienced these past few days, Japanese players who put "I don't speak English" in their profiles are okay playing with NAers, as long as everyone understands that they do not speak English (!). The ones who put "Japanese only" are the players who don't want to play with English speakers.
