70ish PLD Help

I don't know what you guys are talking about not being able to get the last few levels on PLD without a DD setup, I myself do not own a haubergeon, and I refuse to be a weak DD on pld. I leveled PLD to do what it was meant to do, tank. I hit 75 just fine a few months ago.

If I wanted to DD, I'd level a job that was meant to, you know, actually DD. >_>

I had planned on defensive PLD all the way to Lv.75 when I started. I still carry full set of defensive gear whenever I'm on PLD. But... DD setup is just more useful in exp settings, Lv.72+, since everyone is doing WS spam parties.

When things die in under a minute, a PLD can't use two Provokes per fight. Heck, may not even get one Flash per fight without Haste. On top of that, DD's are tossing out 1k+ WS at will. So, PLD can't tank full time anyway.

On a DD set up, PLD those last few levels basically is there to take the critters off the puller/sleeper, and contribute some damage without taking too much damage before the targets die.

Basically, the school of though is that if a PLD can't tank full time, might as well do as much damage as possible without causing MP flow problem. Otherwise, he'd be semi-leeching. (I typically do about 15% of damage in a party on DD setup; I expect a turtle setup would drop that to 5%, yet I wouldn't be able to tank much better.)

None taken. But like I said, that's jut my viewpoint on it, and if anyone ever offers me a party on pld for a "DD" I always turn it down. Just the way I like to play my job, is all.

Well, it's not like you can contribute 15% of a party's damage just by gulping sushi anyway. You'd have to gear for it, so it's something which takes deliberate thoughts and efforts (and considerable amount of gil T_T ), and not something which can be done on a whelm.

Defensive PLD has its place; ToAU final fight was a blast on my PLD/WAR. But, offensive PLD has its place, too. I would encourage every up and coming PLD to consider gearing for both.

But I don't think I'd be much help on the gear selection for your friend, I play tarutaru pld, and a lot of my gear is HP gear, like my earring, backpiece (Gigant mantle), etc. I also use 3 af2 pieces, which I doubt your friend would have access to... but at 73 a really good thing for him to have would be some of the adaman gear. Maybe try for a gigant mantle if he's really suffering for HP, or a kinghtly cape for the +4 vit. But I think pretty much everything has already been covered, anyway.

I'm proud to say you are a waste of a slot in meripo with that mindset.

Pssssh. Warrior tanking is fun. Also challenging. Especially when you have an Aegis PLD leveling his DRK with full Emnity merits.

Beside Hybrid-DD build, another setup is Enmity build.

P.S: The key for Hybrid build is *hybrid* ... the PLD mix in DD gear to *tank* does NOT mean that the PLD is going to wear a paper towel and face the mob!

Yeah, that's one of the other reasons I don't want to DD on PLD. I don't have the time or resources to buy a ton of DD gear when I have fun playing PLD as a tank. I'd rather save my gil to make myself a better tank paladin than spend however much on gear I'm only going to be using 50% of the time.

It's expensive, and OP's friend is Lv.73 already, so probably should aim for Koenig Shield instead.

Neck: Parade

Parade Gorget should not be full time gear on any set up, except maybe /NIN on long fights which happens to be easy on keeup up Utsusemi. It's more less just resting gear for me these days. ^_^;
