When is too soon?
I should hit level 65 PLD soon. I have my testament from when I was farming for coffer keys with others.
So now I am wondering, when is a good time to smack the old man around?
From the gear selection I have been preparing the only item I do not have is a company sword.

I see no need to rush, but the urge to attempt Maat is there.

I'm sure it can be done at your level. If you think about it, maat is the same level as you are. I personally took it up and challenged him at level 66. Then again, I was playing as black mage, so the fight's probably a little different, but I'm sure it can be done. Just go in with the right strategy.

Re: When is too soon?
I went in and fought him at 70 and had absolutly no problem. I did use a company sword, but that would be the only piece of gear that would be different. Your probably fine with the sword you have now. Just make sure you prepare and have a good strategy and you'll be fine.

Re: When is too soon?
LS friend tried at 66 and he said it was a whiff-fest on his side... and lost, twice, I believe.

I fought and destroyed him first time at 70. (Although I am fortunate, all he did was 2 Maat Bashes and one Dragon Kick)

Pros for the battle at 65-69: Getting it done earlier.
Cons for 65-66: Less acc, less atk, less def, lesser protect, less HP, less MP, ever-so-slightly less basic stats.

Pros for 70: Defense Bonus 4, Protect 4, higher above mentioned stats.
Cons for 70: If you have a totally totally rocking party at 69, you ding to 70, there is a small chance you might hit the exp needed for 71 and waste further exp in that party.

As for gear, tanking is adequate. Opo-opo necklace is good for the sleep-TP, but after that switching back to tanking neck piece is okay. I had a Hauby and one woodsman, but they were icing on the cake, not the cake itself

I never used Company, I had an Espadon +1...

That's my opinion.

PS: Oh, and use a Meat Chiefkabob. Def food is not as effective in this battle.

Re: When is too soon?
I just think its random an luck of the draw. I knew one pld who beat him at 66, I knew another Pld who died 3 times trying to beat him at lvl 70. An both pretty much fought him the same way. I remember it being a 45 min convo in the ls channel.

Re: When is too soon?
Does this apply for RDM also?

Iv seen it all being about Aero 3, would I just use Stone 3 if I were to do it at 66?

Yes, but since the general strategy for RDM Maat is blow the snot out of him, it might be best to wait until 69 for Aero 3. He's probably doable at 66, but what's the rush?
