What is saddening about that order? I am glad that my Keonig Shield has the best stats (in my opinion) and is a size 3 |

I always love kite shields (size3) Koenig favorite one, the thing with koenig shield it has high proc rate like a smaller shield but take less dmg like size 3 or 4 combine. It makes sense that 3 and 4 are best, most mages cannot wear size 3 or 4 except rdm with ice shield, and acheron. Therefore SE meant to give tanks the advantage of using the best tanking shields in game IMO

yea, my only complaint is that (and this is purely from an aesthetic point of view, so no Koenig shield +stats in my mind) size 4s, as basically paladin-specific shields, should be their forte. kinda like... warriors can use polearms but only Dragoons can equip the bad ass lances. From a game play perspective, of course, I'm glad that they didn't decide to make type 3s obsolete (such as koenig) and make all the pallies sell their favorite shields just for the shield that brings them closer to ninja-dom.

WAR DRK PLD BST <- They can equip Hauberk, etc., so why not? Shield might benefit them as well. I don't agree that a RDM should be able to wield a shield size that's large enough to weigh them down. If they can't wear plate/mail armor, then wtf? Heavier/larger shields shouldn't be wielded either. Again, going for consistency and something that makes effing sense. Size 4 should be reserved for PLDs onry. In a sense, make it so that it ties closely with their stats - the closer to cap on current levels, the better proc rates. This will separate part time PLDs from those dedicated to their job and roles.

Reading back through old posts about PLD and found this about shield size and blocking. This information was wonderful for clairfying the situation regarding shields. My only question is..... why isn't this sticky? Mods, plz sticky this post plz! TY sirs. Oh and on a side note, WHM can use size 3 shield, isn't that crazy? Some JP info on shields types: 盾タイプ I haven't researched on its source of validity. Picking out a few bits of interest to translate: Quote:
Type 1: Buckler Quote:
Type 1: 35%Lastly, Quote:
Paladin with high Shield Skill using type 3 ("knight shield") on average reduce damage taken from "Tough" opponent by 30%.Or, if it translate to: Paladin with high Shield Skill using type 3 ("knight shield") on average reduce damage taken from "Tough" opponent to 30%.Can someone who actually read Japanese help me out? ![]() Edit: I don't know why, but some Japanese writing which looks perfectly fine when editing gets mangled on screen once I hit "Save". Urg.

Interesting info. As for the last bit, it probably means "by." I highly doubt the amount reduced per block is affected by shield skill, nor that you can reduce the overall damage you take down to 30% thanks to shielding. On the other hand, reducing average/overall damage by 30% is quite sensible, since my own tests showed approximately a 25-26% cut in damage at Lv.53-55 on DC-T mobs. I'd like to repeat these tests one of these days, when I get all my levelling out of the way.

As for consistency . . . do I really have to go there? In case I do . . . Likewise, "making effing sense" is a bit subjective in this case. For example, this portion of your post didn't make effing sense to me. /vent over

RDM should have much higher Parrying skill, at least C+. It makes sense for RDM not to be able to use large shields, but having such a low parrying skill is stupid. I mean come on, Rapiers and Duelist with D skill?
