I've been browsing these forums since NA launch. This thread is the first I've posted on however. I originally played DRK up to 32, but then switched to PLD and now have that up to 40.

Imac, you are one of the primary reasons I switched over to this job, for your insight and analysis on the PLD's role in FFXI. If you do indeed retire your PLD, I for one will sorely miss your commentary on the varying threads on this forum.

I always wondered about Rugal's obsession with what has been refered to as "anal" testing. I guess working at NASA will do that to you.
It sucks to see you hang the gallant surcoat. There's a lot of hearsay in this forums but very little BS proofing. I for one always trusted your comments even though I didn't always agree, but it was good to have different points of view.
Best of luck.

So true, I was thinking about PLD myself but imac is really the guy that sold me on it.

Does that mean you won't be able to tank dark spark in the nude anymore? ; ;

Yeah that was shallow of me, But seriously I was looking forward to the time when I would be equal among some of Midgardsormr's Greatest Paladins. Biggest reason was so I could stand with the likes of Elidrin, Rugal, TheBruce, Whren. And all those other paladins out there who are making me try to get to their level of holiness.

Every time I read some idiotic thing he writes or does, I want to leave so bad haha... if only he could move to another server =\
I think it was fairly gratifying that Ceciliantis was that annoyed he didn't get invited to do M7-1 and 7-2, enough to send tells to people about it. While it is childish and incredibly sad, come on "you'll never get any help with summons from me" was a pretty damn funny ;p What a sad threat, especially to someone who has already done 5/6 of them already.

Cecil reminds me of a guy I knew playing EQ. He acted like I was lesser because I wasn't 50 by the time the first expansion came out, always had a really smug attitude..mostly had to do with the fact his cyber buddy chick thing didn't like me. Long story short, I got a lot more out of my $12 dollars a month than he or his diddle buddy ever did.

Just take people like that with a grain of salt. They lack the basic skills in working cooperatively with other people, and never can do anything that doesn't somehow benefit them first and foremost. Consequently, they usually don't end up doing a hell of a lot besides chasing virtual poon and brooding about the fact they never got to be "uber" or whatever.

I hope you had fun yesterday doing those missions, cuz a lot of em was folks we knew who are some of Midgardsormr's best people to hang out with. Even despite the hang ups people like Khronic cracked me the hell up - "ok guys I accepted the Forsaken mines, now what". That is what keeps it fun and why its worth playing.

This makes me sad. I'm never included in any missions or anything. ; ;

Whren you're sandorian >:O I'd help if I wasn't a dirty Bastokian XD I came late for the missions (I didn't even know about it hehe), but Weezing was awesome enough to wait for me.. yeah man those missions were hilarious.

Thanks for the support people. I'm still wishy washy what I'm going to do from here on out.. but I am leaning toward going the traditional BST/WHM for a while. Which means I better level WHM to 30 before the PS2 rush :p

From what I have gathered now (from comments on this thread and some discussions with people ingame), Paladins are indeed a very viable option at endgame. Several HNMs and mission bosses and xp mobs out there use devastating AE attacks. Remember that monster's build tp by being hit (each hit you do, they gain (how much you gain)+3%... for example, my sword does 7%, so they would gain 10%). Now remember that NIN's best WS blade:ku is a 5hitter... which means they'd just be ASKING for more AE attacks :p

So yes, there is a nice future out there for us PLD. Nevertheless, I think I just need a break from it... lots of my friends tell me I won't be able to resist the lure of the sword and shield for long... we'll see, I suppose =)

Somajan, although I disagree I'm in the same league as Bruce, Whren, Elidrin, and Ethreal, I still won't mind tanking DS naked for you when you get to that level if I'm still playing

And yes, SvC Chaos is a very broken game. But I've come to expect that from SNK games.. SNK games are generally very good 1p games, but have way too many exploits and overlooked overpoweredness to be solid competitive games.

Good luck to all of my fellow Paladins. Play with truth and honor and a big can of whoopass.

There's this saying among artists (<<< is one) that the moment you think you're good your work starts to deprove. Same here, I'm certainly not outstanding in any way whatsoever. I tank because I like it and try to do my best, and that's all there is to me. So don't go talking about 'leagues' and stuff.

And as far as i collected so far dynamis is basically a big mess of repeating AE's.
I wasn't suggesting you to try ninja because it's uber, that's for sure, just because if played in a certain way it's fun (and makes you understand it's many many many weakness better, so you can happily go back to PLD )

Nah you'll come back to it Rugal. When the rest of us catch up to you crazy guys who have way to much free time you'll jump right back in.

But yeah... take a break. I most certainly will when Lineage 2 comes out.

Well in my short time in the game I have had the pleasure to be in the company of "the" Mr. Rugal. I have been set on PLD since day one and geared myself towards being a def war. Then when the LS GZWSalliance disbanded I found myself all alone About this same time I unlocked my PLD job and from reading enough on the net I knew most of what needed to be done as a PLD. Then one day I ran into an old GZWS member...it was Rugal. Once I started talking to him again he showed me a few things that has truly increased the lvl of my play to somewhere once unthought by me. I aspire to be invited to a BCNM or other "event" because of my playing skill, and NOT just because my name came up on a search. When that day comes, I know alot of it will be due to the small things that I learned from talking to, and reading the works of Mr. Rugal. So, as I sit on the Pashow marshlands with my seek flag up, watching the LS talk about what life will be like once it disbands, I think to myself, it will be a sad day to be a PLD when Mr. Rugal leaves..........

Thanks for your help, and I hope you return.

BOOOOOO, imac dont leave

Imac I also have been looking at ninja and been like, ehhh.... ok, but all in all i look at the upsides of our job, in a normal exp party if you have your mages with dark staffs and always have refresh on you can non stop pull ITs. Think about it like this, can a nin hold agro though a 1200 dmg guillotine? no way!, can a nin heal a silly drg who has done 5 pentas in a row and ran out of jumps? no way! It all comes down to if you like your char or not i guess.

I myself was thinking about taking a break for almost the EXACT same reason you are, idiots in comunity pissing me off, and those oh so "wonderfull" ninjas tanking all the stuff we cant ; ;.

All i can say is pray they give us "Flash 2" so we can show those evil ninjas whos boss:mad:

Now that i look at it, im mainly upset because i chose diablos /suckup mid has such a wonderful 60+ pld comunity /endsuckup.
