Anybody ever got creative with Paladin and use it as something other than a tank? I know what they are there for, but so is Dragoon. And Dragoon theif is a bad ass combo because no one thought of it and it goes against the commonly stated mandate.

I'm sure there are advantages to drg/thf, but "uniqueness" doesn't exactly sell me on a job/subjob combination. You could make a whm/war.....but what would be the point....you'd be the only one on the server, but does that make it a good combo? Picking opposing or non beneficial subclasses for your job may result in some amusement at being different for a while, but the pain will follow after about lvl 20 (or sooner) while you are sitting waiting for a pt invite for days due to no one liking your creativity. PLD's have a role, and if we fail at our role, more than likely people will die. So I would advise to stick with the basics on this job and be unique with the ones that won't result in the death of pt members.

Taken from DRK forum: Quote:
DRG/THF has been thought of a lot o_o I don't know where you think that no one's tried it.... From what I hear Pentathrust doesn't stack with yokodama/fuidama, so this combo isn't as useful as some people think. You have to remember that a sub-THF's sneak attack is a LOT weaker than a main-THF's sneak attack. As an example, a main THF can do 3-8x more damage with SA, a sub-THF can do about 1.5x more damage with SA. It's the same as one critical, really. On the whole, /war with Berserk is going to have more DPS and /sam at level 60 with meditation is going to do even more DPS. At level 60 DRG/THF can yokodama/fuidama to transfer hate, but honestly a DRK/THF or just a THF will do this much better (from what I read, Guillotine stacks with fui even though penta doesn't). If you are just saying you want to be different from everyone, then have fun. I still don't understand the reason why some people just HAVE to care so much about what other people play as or do... I say play smart, be yourself, and do what's best for you. This does not automatically mean 'DONT DO WHAT EVERYONE ELSE IS DOING!' If you want to be an effective member of a PT, then you'll know what to do. If you make a non-tank PLD in teams past 30, people will either kick you immediately, or if they're nicer, they'll just wish they never invited you. You'll do contribute nothing to the group (as you have very few useful spells and you'll do less damage than just about any other melee class), and basically just be an EXP leech. If you want to sacrifice effectiveness for 'raging against the status quo', then go for it. I just feel sorry for your PT unless they're your good friends and will put up with you. | |

Good point but not all true. Everything hasn't been tried. If so there wouldn't be a point in the debate. It would be FAQ. Everything would be common knowledge. And there are plenty of circumstances to try new things in. Common knowledge isn't always subject to criticism, but when it creates a kind of disclosure to new ideas, it becomes a target. I have no doubt that you are right. You obviously know better than me but I do believe that the tone in the forum should be a little more respectful. Don't be afraid of everything new.

Everything has been tried is the point. The game has been out for close to two years now I believe. Only reason why there even is a debate is because of all the new NA players who think they can find some secret combo that no-one else in the free world has thought of yet. Ain't going to happen.
