Dial-up Internet

I've had to deal with dial-up connections for years now, but something has always struck me as odd. I have a 56k modem that connects at 49k but the highest my transfer rate has ever been while downloading anything is around 5k/sec. Does anyone know the REAL reason for this? Does anyone with a modem get faster transfer rates? Does anyone else think I'm getting screwed?

I couldn't help but to stare at your sig. (lol)
Anywho, the reason why your connection is slower then your modem is probably cos of the telephone line. The more modern the telephone line AND/OR telephone box is, the faster the connection is.

I think you should get DSL, SBC YAHOO is have a great deal and so does ATT. I have sbc yahoo dsl, and its great with FFXI. go me! lol

Believe me, dude, I've tried to get DSL and cable hook-up for a long time. It just ain't in the cards. About the only thing I can get is a hook-up through the satellite dish, but it costs WAY too much. I'm gonna have to move to a new house (which I'm trying to do) before I can get the good stuff. I can't even get pizza delivered out here!:mad:

Well let me answer your problem by making you look stupid with your
sig. The reality of it is that the us government would like to screw
us. Other countries do the same to their citizens as well. They want
to ensure they can 1. control you 2. get every last penny possible while doing so
and 3. make you buy a slowly released type of technology which kind
of goes with 2.

You see the 56k thing was a big marketing scheme, didn't really do
jack shit as far as different speeds when 'they' could of released
cable or dsl long time ago.

BUT, because our army likes to have better technology than us they
decided to use this scheme to fund themselves. And it really never
stops, now tell me did you really wanna know the answer to this
question? No probly not, just go take some drugs and forget alllll about it :p :spin: :p :spin: :p :spin: :p :spin:
