Managed to put up with a day trip with my future mother-in-law.

Excerpt:
MIL: "So Fefe [son's girlfriend; my name is "A-B", hers is the same A twice], you, and I will sleep upstairs; your brother and Feba will sleep in the room downstairs."
Me, to Fiancée: "Did she just say what I think she said"
Fiancée: "Yes"
Me: "You'd best tell the bitch she be crazy"
-- (later that night, we arrive at the house we're staying in)
MIL, to her son: "We're going to sleep upstairs, so you and Feba will sleep here"
Son: "Feba? Bitch you crazy, you'd best mean Fefe."

And then she made my fiancée and I sleep on a tile floor with nothing but a thin blanket on top of it, because she's too good to sleep on the couch, or let us clean up the neighboring room a little so we could use a futon.

In other news, my fiancée now knows very clearly that we are not staying in this country permanently.

So I started a really modest workout schedule a few months back. Since then I've managed to lose five pounds and keep it that way. For how little effort I've actually put into this, I'm quite pleased with those results.

Way to take a statement of self accomplishment (note the thread we're in) coupled with pride and turn it into some kind of degrading insult. He lost weight, he kept it off, he's proud. Give the dude a pat on the back or don't say anything, man.

What you might consider to be a joke or some kind of "encouragement" might seem to others like an outright patronizing insult.

Cut it out.
