Model fired for Being "Too fat"...

I'm sure everyone has either heard of this, or seen it. But those that havent here it is...

If you asked people at random to describe Filippa Hamilton in a word, you’d hear a lot of synonyms for “gorgeous.” What you wouldn’t hear is “fat.”
And yet the 5-foot-10-inch, 120-pound model says that is essentially why she was fired by Ralph Lauren after eight years with the fashion designer.
“They said I couldn’t fit in their clothes anymore,” the size 4 stunner told TODAY’s Ann Curry Wednesday in New York. Hamilton said that Lauren wrote a letter to her agent saying, “We’re terminating your services because you don’t fit into the sample clothes that you need to wear.”

I think they where wrong for fireing her. She isn't fat. She actually looks pretty IMHO. And the way they made her look on the magazine cover... That was horrible looking. They are sending the wrong messege to everyone (In fact most, if not, all fashion companies are). They make you think "I should look like that." even though it is in fact IMPOSSIBLE to look how they do. Most modles are also photoshopped to look even "better" which I think is stupid.

Well... What do you think about this? Think she should have been fired? Think it sends the wrong message to everyone? Think companies shouldn't beable to photoshop anyone (And if they do, they should have a discalmer somewhere saying it was photoshopped)?

This is the same society that within the last 100 years, thought minorities shouldn't get equal rights and share the same bathroom and fountains, and where gays shouldn't be able to marry.

I'm not exactly sure why you're surprised at how people are wrongly judged.

because people who have just been fired never disparage their previous employer without a good reason, and they always understand them clearly.

the tl;dr of this saga is going to be that everyone involved is an idiot, including people who give a damn.

Well I think the issue here is that there was quite a movement for the modeling industry to reform. This just sets it all back to square one again. Like they said, modeling was starting to take steps towards the curvier Cindy Crawford type models but now we've taken a giant leap back to the Twiggy days. All in all this issue is in the hands of the consumer. If people keep buying into this shit, it will never change. Money talks.

when I buy the weekly food stuffs, and standing at the checkout, I see the magazines all the time "is she to fat" or "look she got fat" and it show a sexy very pretty and thin "star" on the front page. I always thing to my self "WTF that's not fat....."

But they shouldn't fire you for that. Infact. They should get more people that look more like people who are actually buying their products. Not use fake photoshopped shit and making it seem that they have to look like that. They should use people that actually are that average size of teh consumors. Not what they want you to be.

I've seen these a few times. I was just surprised to see something about it onthe news. Hopefully this stats to change the fashion industry to think that not everyone is as thin as they used to be.
