Re: Gold Farming is illegal in China as of ... now

I honestly doubt anything is going to change. The Chinese RMT will just hide better. Same as selling drugs, prostitution, black market weapons, etc. That stuff still gets sold all the time against the laws of the government, I don't see why this is going to change anything.

It may shut a few operations down, but realistically they're not gonna hunt the RMT down or anything like that. Nothing will change.

that's pretty much what I was thinking, its why no one should really get their hope up or anything, I have seen this news posted at other places, and they are cheering like they won a war or something.......

I wouldn't be so sure of that. China already has very strict internet control policies, it wouldn't be that hard for them to look into connections that are playing MMOs more than X time per day. I highly doubt an MMO would be playable over proxies as well. I doubt it would be feasible to dodge the government there if the government decided to really crack down on it.

However, even if China figured out how to do what no other country has done (/wave Iran, hows that twitter thing working out for you), it still doesn't mean much. People are willing to pay for gil/gold/whatever so someone else somewhere else would fill the void and a lot of the bots at many HNM's are 'legitimate' EGLS's so nothing much will change there.

Well, again, TOR and proxies work well for information, but I really doubt that they can be effectively used for games; even one as 'slow' as FFXI.

I somewhat agree with what you are saying. RMT's will not be completely shut down by this, however those other illegal activities generally do not involve online transactions. To steal a quote from the "What is the Internet" Thread. Internet = Big Brother (watching us).

This should do absolutely nothing, but it's still sort of interesting.
Wow a lot of people there rely on gold farming for money..

I didn't read Pwnagraphics post correctly. >.<

Edit: Then those that rely on it, should find a real job. I've seen the CNN news special on how they live. Its horrible, and they are paid horribly. Theres like 50 people in a small room sleeping in sleeping bags their entire life. They are on teh computers 16 hours a day. Its horrible how they live, but they need to actually get a real job, and not fuck with those that want to just enjoy a game.

you say that like its an easy thing, why do you think they are doing what they are doing. not that I condone what they are doing, but I am sure some of us can understand how desperate a person might get, when they cant find a job.

Re: Gold Farming is illegal in China as of ... now

My understanding of law in Asia (I'm generalizing from my experience in Taiwan) is that the law is rarely enforced, and usually laws like these are only enforced when person A has a grudge against person B, or when person A's brother is mayor, and person B is taking away market share from person A's business, etc.

In other words, laws are guidelines, and only enforced for political reasons.

My guess is, somewhat like copyright violations in the US, RMT will continue in China, you might see a few politically-motivated take-downs, but for the most part, things will be about the same as they were.

Of course, I could be wrong, and China RMT will be gone in a month.

I know what its liek to not get a job. (Havent had one for over a year now, and still looking.), but peopel use online game to get away from it all and to unwind from the day. Or to just hang out and talk to people online, while enjoying a game.

I know how desperate that they may be but, do they actually have to ruin other people that want to just enjoy a chat and a game session, as wel as the game company? The RMTs do attacks on SE as well doing denial of Services. Now that is just wrong, doing DDOS.

Yes, I do feel bad for the people who can not get a job. I do understand, I have thought about doing a few things as well (some VERY bad), but I just keep looking for a job. Yea, they may be having an income, but it sucks what they are getting. I feel bad for them that they wont have a job, but they can go out and try and look for a real job, not a job that fucks up people when they just want to play a game for a few hours.

I dont like rmting and such but i dont entirely agree with this post. As far as i know you shouldn't try and compare your job experiences (or lack of) with what alot of people in china have to deal with (and alot of other asian countries). I maybe getting the wrong idea too but heres my two cents on it.

I'm prolly wrong about this but i think you should remember that the majority of people of china are generally alot more worse off than the majority of people in the west and will do anything, I mean ANYTHING to get money to get through their lives. They have whole communities in china where they just live and sort through the dump all day and night to make cash, rice fields dont make the money like it should even though they eat alot of it, they sacrifice alot so we get cheap food, clothes, etc @.@ and to be honest i'd rather make easy money through rmting than that. Many people travel from their homes to get good jobs but the majority cant because you have to be rich or in a good family (which is similar to the west to be honest), many leave their families behind and end up getting paid next to nothing in the most deprived conditions. Chinese and alot of other asian countries tend to be very resourceful in how to make money no matter how little they get out of it.

Also remember America: 306 million peeps China: 1.3 billion that's a whole lotta more people to provide jobs for so you take what you can and rmting isn't nearly as bad as drug smuggling, human traffickng, etc cos to be honest no one is truely really harmed by it.
