Re: Hey, south-east US, bend over.

I don't think the conventional economic concept of Supply and Demand actually applies to gas prices anymore, its now the concept of Bullshit and More Bullshit and has been that way for several years.

For everything else, Supply and Demand still functions, but is unfortunately affected by Bullshit and More Bullshit. Bullshit and More Bullshit works best when big oil gives politicians "incentives" to turn a blind eye to what they're doing, but really the government didn't even need that, they already put a lot of tax on gas per dollar >.>;

It has gotten so bad that me and my husband cannot even afford to leave off base sometimes. If only the prices where like they were when I was 8 years old. $1.10 a gallon. That would make such a big difference. But I guess its way to late to think about that now.

$7.44 a gallon over here. Despite that you can bet the petrol companies will be announcing record profits next year just as they did recently.

Yep.

Hey, US, they're called bicycles. You don't let them get away with this and they won't keep doing it.

OK then you find us all good jobs compatible with our skills plus benefits and also within a reasonable distance from our homes and we'll bike there.

Anyway, looks like the shortage ended since I was able to find unleaded again this morning, though BP was holding on to $3.99 per gallon.

Re: Hey, south-east US, bend over.

Well our budget is quite restricted here with 3 extra bodies in the house now. We do make my daughter pitch in a little but since she has $80,000 from her marriage to pay off now, we'd rather she stick most of her money there. The faster it gets paid off the faster she's out. But with money tight, there was no gas budget to take my little summer trips this year. I usually go visit friends that I've met online/irl in the summer but I drive because I enjoy it. The most I got to do was a short trip out to the Madison area and another to the LaCrosse area but they were also piggybacked on business. No summer trips = a irritated granny!

Hey Feba, if you ever get around to going outside you might notice that urban planning has residential areas built away from commercial and industrial parks. You also might notice that not everyone aspires to working at the 7-11 on the corner of their street.

It's called a standard of living, people want one high enough not to have to live next to that feedlot, UPS depot or fabrication plant.

And keep the temperature under 75 so that we don't end up sweating buckets getting to work.

I think it's because what lowers prices is competition, rather than supply. And oil companies have joined to become a monopoly with no competition in their market.

The only way I see prices going back to being affected by supply and demand would be if an alternative energy source was introduced at a cheap enough price to force oil companies to lower their prices. Or if the goverment started their own company with much lower prices (which will never happen since the US goverment is controlled by big oil.)

Or something like that. <_<;

PS > As time pases I feel more and more compelled to buying a motorcycle for any trips without load to save gas money. I just wonder if the increased risk of being involved in an accident is worth it. >_<

I live in a little far away land called the Dessert. Filled with highways and cactus's. The nearest building is 20 minutes away. A bike? I dont think that would do much for me here.

Re: Hey, south-east US, bend over.

It takes 35 minutes driving 60mph to get to my job. A bike is most certainly out of the question, or I would have reverted to it long ago.

Re: Hey, south-east US, bend over.

I don't think a bycicle would work with the way cities are nowadays. And a motorcycle Enhances accident rate. So I'm not so sure I want to get one of those either.
