Re: Palin announced as Republican VP nominee.

I think Clinton is a bitch, but she did give up eventually, and has taken great steps to repair all of the damage she did; and now quite possibly going above and beyond that.

Are you fucking kidding me? Upset? What posts are you reading? I'm happy as hell; McCain basically just threw the election disregarding a giant ace up his sleeve. Some with pretty much every other person I've seen who doesn't want McCain in office. Palin was a horrible, laughably bad choice. The very same articles that were introducing her were talking about why she was a bad pick. Even before she had a chance to speak there was enough out about her to turn any sane voter away.

Palin, on the other hand, is a HORRIBLE match for McCain. Whenever you see them next to each other, she exaggerates McCain's age. Her status as a "Token Female" has already pissed off a good number of women, who McCain already has tons of trouble with (as above, google 'McCain hates women'). Her selection underscores the fact that McCain cannot be trusted with the presidency; again, just think of what would happen if McCain was unable to serve as president and she took office. Two years ago she was mayor of a town of 9000; and now you seriously think she's ready to take an office that has pretty good odds of her being president? No way in hell.

A good match for McCain would've been someone he LIKES. Someone that doesn't scream "Karl Rove picked me!". Someone that was different enough that you might still be able to see a glimmer of the maverick image McCain so desperately needs to project if he wins, someone that says "yeah, I did what they didn't want me to do, what of it?" Someone that would be capable of serving as president, and someone that would challenge McCain. Someone that would help to bring in independent voters. Someone like that would've actually been a good pick, and might actually have me concerned about the chance of McCain winning.

Palin was such a great demonstration of going with the party instead of your heart; going with pandering over substance; going with what's popular in the short term instead of what's right in the long term; and so on that she's practically a living image of the McCain campaign.

McCain could not have given his opponents a better tool to bludgeon him over the head with.

Re: Palin announced as Republican VP nominee.

I'm curious what you actually like about Obama/Biden now. Biden really doesn't like Obama in real life, nor does he support him. And you want to say McCain picked someone he didn't like? You think Obama/Biden trust each other considering what they've said about each other? Politics is sad sometimes.

Obama picked someone who can get a crowd by speaking his mind at no costs or worries (until he publicly apologizes at later times for what he says)

What's going to happen when they catch Biden in the same fashion as they did Jesse Jackson? (being caught on camera with a microphone on lol) I'll give it 3-6 months.

shya, right.

Lieberman is much more saavy than Obama. Obama is lucky Lieberman declined the VP opportunity from McCain earlier in the year.

Re: Palin announced as Republican VP nominee.

How do you know if McCain dislikes her. According to McCain's camp he met her one time and picked her.

I think the pubes just gave Biden the presidency. (because we all know Obama if he wins won't live long enough to do anything.)

Oh please. Because he said that he wasn't experienced? Newsflash, they were competing. That happens in politics. And opinions change. Over the past year, as I've mentioned, Obama has been under a ton of scrutiny. It's not hard to imagine that while he was proving himself to the American people he also proved himself to former opposition. As MrMageo pointed out (and you really shouldn't have to listen to him), McCain barely knows Palin. Note how long ago Biden's remarks about Obama's experience were. I'd much rather have two people that didn't like each other sharing office than two people who barely know each other.

Fixed.

Palin ran a town with 9000 residents. Calling that a city is silly. I live in a "city" of 100,000; and it's really barely large enough to be called a city. The only real presidential experience Palin has on her resume is half a gubernatorial term for 47th least populous state in the union, which has been marred by charges and investigations of corruption and a consistently falling approval rating.

Obama might not have the longest resume, but he clearly understands the position, and has the insight, judgment, reasoning, and intelligence to back it up. Palin has a single election of any importance, and hasn't even held up that office for two years.

Really. Really?

John McCain hasn't run anything either. He joined the House of Representatives in 82, and from 86 on has served in the Senate. He hasn't "ran" anything either. Being a governor is not a qualification for being POTUS. Being able to run the country is. That role has been fulfilled wonderfully by Legislators in the past, not the least of which was Lincoln (I'm tired of comparing them too, man, but the idea that working in the legislative branch doesn't prepare someone to be president is silly, and McCain himself would disagree with you.)

Re: Palin announced as Republican VP nominee.

Of the four of them, I'd be most happy to see Palin as President. Not that I plan to vote for either party. I'd actually prefer Obama to win, so the GOP is sent a message, but this makes the idea of a McCain presidency slightly less horrible for me.

You should've quoted the part where he would prefer that someone who has absolutely no ability to run the country to someone who does just to further his own ideals.

There are actually some things about Lincoln which you can disagree with. You as in people in general; Republicans don't really have any room to complain though after the way they've interfered with the sovereignty of other nations so recently. (also see: why the Bush administration's response to South Ossetia is hilarious)

Re: Palin announced as Republican VP nominee.

How do you know she has 'no ability' to 'run' the country? There aren't really specific skills, just good judgment. Nowadays, I'd love anyone with a basic understanding of economics, a level-head, and a backbone. Perhaps she just hasn't had enough time to be corrupted herself, but I trust her more than McCain, Obama or Biden.

And there's a whole bunch of things about Lincoln with which I disagree, hence my comment. He makes W Bush seem moderate.

Actually, I'd like you to tell me in your own words just what the office of president is(about). Hell Feba, I wouldn't reply to this. It would be ugly to shoot yourself in the foot or disqualify you from voting. But just in case, I'll give you a few hours to dig something about the office of the president up on the internet, put it into your own words, and post it up. 'Cause it's appearant. You know exactly what it's all about. Bring it forth. I'd like to read it.

...and no, I don't know what the office of the president is all about. I'd wager that very few on this board actually know and could back it up.

Re: Palin announced as Republican VP nominee.

The office of the president of the united states is essentially....wait for it.... a figurehead position yay.... Same with any democratic top position be it a prime minister or chancellor or president. The work is done by the legislative branches of government. In the case of the USA the House, Senate. The president's only true power is veto'ing bills. Otherwise they do nothing.

Policy is nothing unless the house and senate pass it.

So in reality anyone who can sign their name one time (ya for signiture stamps) can be an effective president.

The only other real job a president has is diplomatic situations, but even still this is usually done more so by the presidents staff, and again he is just the figure head that delivers the news.

Re: Palin announced as Republican VP nominee.

Now, that's pretty much the way I had it figured. Then again, that seems to be a pretty basic view for the masses. It would be interesting to see what the president actually did, day in, day out, and how much pull s/he's got.

Checks and balances. The president doesn't "run" the country. My entire previous entry was just me being an ass to Feba for being himself. I'm not sure that he knows what rights and freedoms actually are. It's my personal view that he feels that he's got it figured out and those that disagree are beneath him. That mentallity irks me to no end and it brings about the 'dick' in me.

/sigh
