My apologies........but I have to.....
/rant

Soooooooooooo..... we decided to have a family afternoon before ls events today. It was a hot day in Wisconsin for June so the theatre sounded like a good idea. I just wish we would have picked a decent freakin movie for pete's sake. We went to see...............................

Indiana Jones <dot> <dot> <dot>

If you haven't seen it yet DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY...rent it.

Ok at least we were cool and bored instead of hot and bored. During the movie I decided that we were going to hit Best Buy afterwards, get a bite to eat and then head home. Well as we were leaving we saw it was raining. There were tornado warnings out in the counties west of us when we went in to the movies so it wasn't that much of a surprise.

So off to Best Buy! Half way there it comes POURING DOWN! Seriously...we were driving down the middle of a 3 lane highway at about half the speed and we couldn't see a major intersection. We were in the middle because the sides were flooded up and over the curbs. There was crap blowing all over the roads which made it even more fun too! See pics below:

Well as we gimped our way to the store, guess what happens....in a torrential downpour? Ya one of the windshield wiper blades breaks and gets caught up with the other one so NO wiping was taking place. On a very very busy street. That has a huge mall on it. In a downpour. With idiot drivers. Not our day at all....

So my husband has to stop in the middle of the street in a HUGE puddle because he can not see a single thing. The water was up and over the curb and coming into the car when he opened the door.

The water was foaming out of the manhole covers and shooting up 2 feet in the air. Water fountains in the middle of the street! It was like something from a disaster movie, I swear. So now we are stopped in the middle of the road in a huge puddle and my son has to hop out and get the blades untangled. Well after a couple of minutes of not even being able to see what he's doing, he gets them apart but sacrifices a couple of fingers to some nice deep cuts.

So we gimp along to Best Buy and run in the store. My son is drenched to the bone and bleeding like a stuck pig. Me and my daughter are drenched and shivering too. The store is dead quiet because NO OTHER IDIOTS ARE OUT IN THIS SHIT! LOL

So we go beg some band-aids off the staff and get my son fixed up. We asked to borrow a dryer since they have them but none were vented to the outside so they said no because it would be a fire hazard. LOL Hey, can't blame me for trying!

Well we do end up buying 2 new cell phones so I'm sure I ended up paying for the Band-aids in the end. LOL Oh then we had a comedian sales person too. "So...would you folks like some bottled WATER??" with a shitty grin. Then he offers us a Best Buy protection plan for our phones...."It pays for WATER damage!"

So after walking around Best Buy for over an hour hoping the weather will let up, off into the wild wet yonder we go and decide to stop for a bite to eat because the roads are still under water. Well Applebee's was dead too and everyone was glued to the television because the weather was so bad. It took a while for our food because they had "problems" in the kitchen that they wouldn't elaborate on. I imagine it had something to do with water damage. After we got there, they decided to close the place because more storms were on the way and they had enough issues.

So time to go home, by now we are hoping that the storms have mostly passed and the roads are in better shape. Again....with the hoping....that never friggin works....

The roads are under water all over. A 20 minute drive home ended up taking over an hour and a half.

So a dinner and a movie took over 8 hours of our day. We got home wet, cold and exhausted only to find...........

OUR *$%)#($*# BASEMENT IS UNDER A FOOT AND A HALF OF WATER!!

Seriously....god hates me....

So, tomorrow we will be drying out the basement and hauling out all the ruined stuff..........and I'm a pack rat so let me tell you there is going to be a assload of stuff to do. My husband will be sure to keep any sharp objects or projectile weapons away from me. /sigh

/end rant

Jesus. That really sucks. I feel for ya, as much as someone who's never had to go through something quite like that can.

I'm amazed the movie theatre let you go. They should've begged for you to stay, and even offered to let you watch another movie until the storm passed. I mean, not a good one, but still.

Re: My apologies........but I have to.....
You live down in the Milwaukee area, don't you? In which case, when it comes to driving (especially with the storms the last day or two), I do feel for you.

And, oddly enough, did you know there was a similar storm a number of years back in Appleton? Manhole covers flying every which way... in fact, at the time, my step-father was working pizza delivery, and one of the covers decided to spring up right underneath his car. Fun times were had by all. He was all right, but his car... not so much.

Kinda glad it didn't get that bad up here in Green Bay, but it looks like there's one heading for us right now. And, as my step-father in years gone by, I'm in pizza delivery. It's going to be a fun time, especially since it seems like Milwaukee drivers tend to migrate to other big cities when it rains, if you get my meaning.

Dear, I truly wish I could do that. Though we always have fun on our monthly family night, this was fun at a huge expense. Been downstairs now for a few hours and have only dented about 1/16th of the basement. There is at least 10k worth of damage. We lost both dryers and washers, chest freezers, dehumidifiers, stereo system, and much much more.

Yes the manhole thing was beyond freaky. I didn't know that happened up there years ago but I am glad that we could avoid them and not suffer your step-father's fate! I could not imagine the shock of getting blasted by one, it would be like a freakin sci-fi movie!

Is that dried blood running out of that kid's mouth? And is that a floral pattern on his shirt?
