Peeve: People who can't go through with their word. I honestly am getting sick of people who do this type of thing where they promise to do something for you and then you end up looking stupid on the rebound. I had asked my supervisor if he could talk to his boss about promoting me. He was like "Yeah I'll talk to him tonight. Go see him Satuday when you clock in." So I go to see him to ask him and he gives me this, "What are you even talking about?" type look, I had even brought my credentials with me to show him that I wanted the spot. God, I hate this job, it makes me wonder if the Corp/CEO's the pencil suit assholes are even bothering to keep their employee's happy.
The job was Head Secretary for Human Resources. Paid 12/hr to file through paperwork, which I can easily do and have the credentials for.

What did the boss say when you asked him for the job?

Fuck, I am so tired of being treated like fucking crap by people who think that's how you earn respect. Talking down to people isn't how you make people like you, it actually pisses them off quite a bit and insults their intelligence.
Some nights I want to throw things. Pointy things. Stabby things. I think I must have been a Tonberry in a past life.

You crazy people and your skype. I keep getting added to League of Legends chats, but I always get bashed because I don't play it.![]()
For the past year or so, I've been trying to get myself into a trade union. Which one is of little consequence to me ultimately. What I'm after is more money in each paycheck, and given my lack of a formal college degree, my choices are limited (career-wise).
So last year (if I posted about it... I'm not sure that I did) I applied to the local Electrician's union here in Boston, with hefty reccomendations from my Uncle, Grandfather and cousin who are all either current or retired members in good standing. After nearly 9 months of application requirements and testing and interviews, everything came down to my final interview that took place 3 months ago. They didn't accept me, and their reasoning was that I didn't have enough trade/construction experience under my belt.
What bothered me (and my family) the most was that it was to my understanding that becoming an apprentice to a trade union carried with it the assumption that you have never done the work before. This way, the union could shape and mold you into their way of doing things... rather than having to re-educate to remove bad habits. I mean really? If I'm getting in on the ground floor of any company, I would expect the same... am I wrong?
Anyway. I moved on and got over it until last month when I got a phone call from my father-in-law. He's a long standing member of the Ironworkers union and had been monitoring my application process. He was just as confised by their refusal of me as the rest of us were. As a gesture of good faith and support, he asked me if I wanted him to talk to the ironworkers for me and get me in as an apprentice with them instead.
I feel it's important to remind you all... I'm not "Ironworker Material". That job requires the lugging of heavy rebar and other materials all day long. As such, you are expected to be in peak physical condition and strong as an ox. I am none of these things. I'm not fat or out of shape, I'm a cool 160lbs and "fit"... but my exercise regimen consists of running a few miles a week and basic strength training (IE: I hit the gym on occasion).
Knowing this, he reassured me that if I were to be accepted, he knew guys that started out in worse shape than me and are now some of the best workers on his crew.
I gave him the benefit of the doubt and told him what was true all along; I don't care where I work, as long as the money is good and the work is consistant. So he started pulling strings to get me in on the next group. Supposedly the next group begins in Boston late this month... likey the 20th.
Enter: My dilema
I got a letter in the mail from the Electrician's Union letting me know that I was pre-selected to advance to the final interviews for the apprenticeship this year. If I wan't to be considered, I need to re-submit my application to them no later than October 31st of this year.
The problem is... as per union regulations... a person is only allowed to maintain application with 1 Massachusetts Union at a time. Now I have to choose to wait for the indefinate string-pulling of my father0in-law to start work with the Ironworkers... or wait 6 months to gamble at the chance for Electricians instead.
Keep in mind that neither option is a 100% guarentee. But thanks to the PERFECT TIMING, I have to choose either 1 or the other to put my money on. If only the electrician's union could have held off on their application deadline for 2 more weeks... I could have tried both.
What to choose? What to choose?!?!
Note: The money is the same, the union halls are down the street from one another... and the work for both is steady. Regardless of my choice, I'll be working outside in the cold this winter (provided I get accepted). The only difference between the 2 jobs is that Ironworkers would start me SOON if i got in... while the Electricians would make me wait 6 more months. Iron work is more physically demanding... Electrician work is more mentally demanding. CHOICES!!!!
