I've only lived here four years and I've never experienced an actual hurricane. I have no real clue what to do if one hits, though I've been told by work that if it does, we apparently go on lockdown. Because what I want to do in a local state of emergency is live at work with a bunch of people I hate and work 36 hour shifts.

I'm praying to every god in existence that the damn thing doesn't hit us.

Here's some tips from the government. From my own experience, board up your windows and assume you could be a couple of days without power or water. Make sure you have a flashlight, batteries, radio, non-perishable foods, toilet paper, and anything else you might need to cope without power. Also set your fridge to the coolest temperature so it'll be cooler when the power goes out. You just wait it out and pray you're not without power for too long.

I hear US household walls are typically built of flimsy materials to save money, not sure if that's an issue for Florida residents. In PR houses are almost always made of cement.

Cement here. I live in an apartment, too. I'm more concerned about flooding, honestly, though the maps show it heading so that we will get hit with the edge of the storm rather than the middle, so it shouldn't be much worse that tropical storm Debby was, and I moved during that. Lol.

When I used to live in Florida we would get battered by them. For days on end sometimes. I am glad I wasn't around for Katrina. Best thing to do is also keep some form of flotation on you since people do drown in these situations. My old house was washed 5 miles out and I had to stay in someone else's house who I didn't know (but are good friends with now) so being stuck at work doesn't sound bad. Does the place you work have a back up generator? Also there will be a calm period maybe 30 minutes to an hour but usually 30 minutes. That's the eye which means the 2nd half is on the way if your being hit directly. So when that happens STAY inside your building. People end up dying thinking the storm is done when the second half is usually the most brutal. Also if you do go out stay away from power lines as well. I hate hurricanes I lost friends to them. I cannot stress it enough. Be safe.

Trust me, I hate most of my coworkers so living with them would be awful. We do have generators, part of our operation is storm deployments, but with the RNC coming to town and a storm, we're already stretched too thin. Today is my first day off in 17 days, I'm fucking tired of it.

I was on the phone with someone from work and I was telling him I'm just sick of the goddamn place, and I hate everything about it. I hate the people, I hate the building, I hate the work, I hate the phones, I hate the radios, I hate the beep on the doors when I swipe my access card, I hate the parking lot. I hate everything about the damn place right now. The last thing I want is to live there, even for a few days.

Florida is weird. I went through the entirety of Debby with power, moved (that couldn't be helped, timing was awful), and even took a day trip to Orlando to see my mom, on 3 hours of sleep (which I'll admit, with waves cresting over the bridges and the high winds, wasn't smart). And never lost power, never had any flooding. But a 45 minute storm knocked my power out for an hour and flooded the parking lot in front of my apartment.

We'll see how it all goes.

What sucks even more is my vacation is two weeks away. TWO MOTHERLOVING WEEKS. Any hurricane won't disrupt my plans so I don't care either way (for the most part), it's just that work has gotten particularly annoying the closer I get to the blessed time off and I'm just ready already.

Crime: Too stupid to hold political office or represent their respective parties. Akin said something stupid off-the-cuff, but yeah, totally stupid. Debbie gets torn a new asshole by ANY newsanchor that isn't affiliated with NBC because she keeps saying stupid things.

I still don't like our options for president this year, but watching people get torn to bits like this is fun.

Peeve: coworker comes in sick and has phumonia. Worked not even an hour and then boo hoo'd home. Now I am stuck covering three areas and we got another show tonight by Stone Temple. For gods sake if you know your sick and your doctor tells you to stay home STAY home. Tired of being pulled off my station. I better get paid extra and they better not call me in for Labor Day.

I could hear muffles voices that sounded like an argument. I thought they were inside my building but it went quiet, I went to the toilet and on my way back to my pc decided to make a coffee. I flicked the kettle on and went to the window to wait for it to boil. I could hear teh voices again still muffled and then silence for a few seconds, Then I heard a girl/woman say "goodbye" in a snappy tone but I had no idea where It came from and it was quiet again for about 3 seconds.
I then saw a woman land on the floor face down, She'd come from the 9th floor of the building opposite me. It took me a second for it to register what happened. I noticed there was no commotion as if nobody noticed it but me so i ran and woke up my partner whilst trying to throw clothes on and dial 999 for ambulance and police. I went to call the lift/elevator then realised entering it would make my phone signal cut off so I had to run down the stairs whilst answering questions. I then had to run across the car park and climb a 6ft fence to reach her.
Her bf "i think" was there also on the phone. but there was nothing that I could do. She was alive and trying to rock onto her back so all I could do was keep her still and make sure her bf did the same until police and paramedics arrived,
Finished giving my statement to police about 5:30am. I still can't believe it.

Sorry it's in the peeve thread we don't seem to have a mndfk thread lol. I just needed a little bit of a vent, if it counts as a vent.
