What's your pet peeve in RL?

Speaking of PC problems my keyboard just decided to die on me tonight. After who knows how many years of service my loyal Sidewinder 6 has stopped working for the most part.

And now I am left with the awful task of getting a new keyboard, and since Sidewinder has already been discontinued I can't run back to the comfort zone so... any good gaming keyboard suggestions?




PS > I've been considering getting a mechanical Razer Blackwidow, but being so much into clear audio I'm not sure I'll enjoy the clicky noises even if the keyboard would not be the same without them if I got the Stealth version of it.

Razer is generally a cheap brand of cheap products. Logitech never fails to disappoint.

I have no issues with any brand of computer mouse. My problem is that USB ports on laptops seem to go bad really easily. Both my my last two laptops have had USB problems. The first laptop, one of the ports died entirely and the other two were intermittent, on this laptop, they also work intermittently.

Touch pad? Fuck that.

In their defense, it was not originally of Logitech design and manufacture. I think they bought a small company and/or their design and slapped the Logitech logo on it. I don't remember the item number so it'd be hard to verify the details, but it was something like that. The headset has since been deservedly discontinued and replaced with a superior model. Every other experience I've had with a Logitech product has been positive, but that marks the last purchase I make based purely on trust in their brand.

Well I am happy. Put 10 dollars down on Final Fantasy XIV on the release. Also got a copy of Journey and I am going to be playing DCUO I guess until XIV hits the shelves.

Update:

Turns out my keyboard was ok. I tested it at work so after almost buying a new keyboard I tried again to get it to work with a cooler head. Turns out an update changed the HID Services setting to manual so many of the functions on the keyboard were disabled unless you started the service manually.



Microsoft's ninja updates ftw.

I got another issue not so long ago when another update set EVERYTHING in my C and D drives to read onry and wouldn't accept setting back to normal. So I couldn't change settings on games and stuff like that, but that was much easier to diagnose. The solution in Windows 7 (in case anyone ever runs into that problem) is to right click the drive in question and hit Properties > Security > Advanced button > Ownership. And set your account as owner, that should fix everything and also allow you to enable or disable Read only at will.
