If it wasn't such a pain in my ass to remake my GH420 on my Acrotecher, I'd reroll her if only to rename her. See, I know nothing about Japanese. I am not a massive Japanophile.

Despite that I managed to make a name that is the Japanese word for ..get this.. 'name'. -_-; People are always asking me and it drives me up the fucking wall. *I* thought I'd make it up. It was the name of a character I played in a pbp RP on a forum a year or so ago. So I just used it.

Repeatedly explaining this:

"No, I don't know Japanese. No, I am not an otaku. No, I really don't want to learn Japanese for anime, if I learned it at all it would be because I'm into historical Japan, not anime all that much."

...gets real old fast.

The only character I intentionally gave a Japanese name to was my Beast, and again, it was on purpose, because it was yet another RP name. And said rp was set in an oriental-like world, so I just flipped through a Japanese dictionary we had at a bookstore and said 'Sounds feminine enough. Nar.' RP flopped, boyfriend said he'd preferred to write it as a series of novels anyway, he just thought he'd see what others would do in the world. It's something he's been working on the map and history for for probably 7 years, so yeah, it was too much for an RP in the first place. And once we start on the books, the Japanese name will go. I just haven't come up with a suitable replacement name yet. Because I do so hate people mistaking me for one of those idiots that pick up Japanese phrases from anime and abuse them.

In my opinion, what a forum needs to keep profanity, is good moderators. Compare these forums with those from KillingIfrit, it's a huge difference, both are filled with FFXI Community members though.

Either way, I think we all know the web is filled with this kind of stuff.. And I think the best is to leave this for what it is, and enjoy our own moderated community at ffxionline.com, a nice forum for every mature and decent FFXI player.
