Yes, but FFXIO isn't exactly a profitable business either.

Anyway, thread was started by a troll/idiot, and continued to be posted on by trolls/idiots for amusement. Hardly a negative mark on the community tbh.

Phantasy Star Universe? Ewww.

- Prons is still angry because he waited all night for the PSU beta, and then paid 60 dollars just to find out he paid 60 dollars for the beta without new content.

Re: A community worse then FFXI/WoW

I think there's a mental defect within you if you stick with any completely broken online game by Sega and pay for it monthly, which is what both Phantasy Star games qualify as. Sega doesn't truely update or fix these games, they didn't even police it til Blue Burst. I gave the series so many chances, all were wasted in each incarnation.

I was probably one of the very few that enjoyed PSO Ep III, but the fact that I had to rub elbows with the inbred community was why I stopped playing. So many little brats patrolled the game it was annoying.

Though I will admit it was amusing to see them try to cheat at the card game. You could hack the best cards, but you couldn't hack the knowledge to use them or the server's randomized dice rolls. I usually ended up beating a lot of these people with a f'n starter deck XD

Those boards have been notorious for being a total cespool.

Japanese launch was much worse. They had a closed beta last May, but Sega didn't properly stress test the servers. As a result, when the game was released, the servers could only support 20,000 players and there were over 100,000 registered accounts. As a result, the servers broke and went down for like 5 days and they had to do a character wipe. They wrote off the month of September as an "extended beta" and the official service didn't start till October.

Re: A community worse then FFXI/WoW

I tried PSU during the beta. I can't say I was impressed by people there either.

The only time I was invited to join anyone was with someone a few levels higher than me. Initially I thought they must be pretty cool wanting so help someone out who was a lower level level than them. Then they spoke and I got the trade request. He asked for so many dollars, I forget how many. When I didn't have anywhere near the amount he wanted (and wouldn't have given him it even if I did) since I was only level 3 or something stupid like that he starts shouting in a stereotypical American accept "What the f***, what is this sh**. Get the f*** out of here man, get the f*** out" or something along those lines and kicks me from the party.

Awesome introduction to a game.

Re: A community worse then FFXI/WoW

I'm amazed so many morons even play a game like PSU.

As I recall, PSO had a horrible level grind (nothing as bad as Ragnarok Online though... oh god, the retarded amount of leveling that happens in that game)

I would think that would be enough of a deterrent to keep all those morons away.

Wow, I played that game from alpha until retail...thats a blast (from a gun...to my head ><) from the past. Not only the leveling but the drop rate on the cards that mattered was abyssmal!! Oh and let's not even talk about bots...if people in FFXI think the botting/gil sellers are bad.......PFFFFFFFFT! I BRIEFLY beta'd RO2 actually and while they added quests, its just the run and get kind of crap. It's just more of the same....including bots....

I've played all the PSO's and the first time I played it was the best. Each one after is pretty much the same old crap so I always warn people before buying. I'm not saying it isn't fun but to me its about 2-3 months of fun and then its old and stale.

Re: A community worse then FFXI/WoW

Yeah, Ragnarok's grind was pretty bad. To make matters worse, it didn't start to become apparent until the 90s. Levels 1-96 were about the equivalent of 97-99 exp-wise. Leveling in that game made FFXI look like child's play. PSO's grind wasn't all that terrible. With PSOv2 on the DC, 1-200 was about 96 million exp. In subsequent versions, they cut it down to 83 mil and made mobs (particularly bosses) give out more exp.

Re: A community worse then FFXI/WoW

I dunno how I get to lvl99 in iRO and yet can't focus on leveling 1 job in FFXI. All these different jobs >_<. But yea, if you think the xp loss in FFXI is bad(cause it isn't), imagine wasting lots of time to get 1% xp, only to die and then lose it. I had friends who had weird job setups at level 80 and didn't want to start over, and it sometimes took them half an hour to an hour to get 1%. An hour. And to die by some freak accident or someone training mobs around you'd basically had wasted an hour of your life with only some drops to show for it. I really am not surprised at why so many people bot on that game and why so many flock to private servers(not gonna get in to how bad iRO Gravity is). If i wasn't a Monk leveling off Turtles I'd probably have never gotten to 99.

On topic, PSU is really just horrible in terms of community. Played it for around a month after it came out and never went back. I LOVE the games but the people that make up the majority of the online community totally ruin it.

Actually, this could be interesting in FFXI. Keep the EXP total the same, and shift the focus from 67-75 to like 73-75.

Considering you can join a merit party at level 73 without being a total leech, that could actually work...
